Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Planned working time percentages are approximate and can change on a daily basis due to operational needs. 70% - Operates and maintains boiler/boilers in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions to meet the steam demands of the Center. Operates, regulates and maintains the following equipment necessary for the generation of steam: Feed water pumps, forced draft fans, condensate return pumps, fuel oil pumps, air compressors, water softeners, chemical feed pumps, air dryers, PRV stations and pressure, level and temperature controls. Carries out sole shift responsibility for utility plant operations. 20% - Records plant operating conditions every two hours, maintains shift production and usage records. Checks operation of condensate return pumps and sump pumps in buildings outside plant. Tests water for proper softness, add salt to brine tank as necessary. Tests boiler water for alkalinity, sulfite and phosphate residuals and solids concentration. Adds chemicals as necessary to maintain control limits. Daily cleaning tasks as assigned. 10% - Performs assigned PMS work. Repairs plant equipment as assigned. Installs new equipment and makes modifications to existing equipment as assigned. Prepares and paints equipment and structure as required. Operates emergency generator plant, manually transfers electrical load when necessary. Required to drive state vehicles when needed to pick up parts/supplies. Performs all related duties as required or assigned. Functions as a lead worker over semi-skilled utility plant staff. |
