Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The purpose of this position is to provide skilled work in the operation and maintenance of trucks and light to medium construction and maintenance equipment with a gross vehicle weight up to 32,000 pounds. Work also involves general laboring duties including acting as a lead worker when required. The overall purpose is to use these skills to maintain the district's infrastructure and support the Forest Maintenance Supervisor, District Managers and other co-workers in meeting the goals and expectations of the DCNR Bureau of Forestry and the Buchanan State Forest. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Possesses (at least) a valid Pennsylvania Commercial Class B Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements to cover vehicles operated, such as air brakes and tanker with no restrictions. Operates wheeled tractors utilizing side mounted mowers and brush hogs to mow road edges, fields, game food plots, etc., three-point hitch mounted high pressure leaf/debris blowers and pulls stone rake to remove stones from roads. Operates trucks equipped to fight forest fires including ¾ ton to 1 ton 4 x 4 pickups on roads, trails and off-road conditions. Operates and uses all pumps and other power and hand tools and equipment on these trucks. Operates front end-loaders with articulated steering and a bucket capacity of 3 cubic yards or less. Operates skid steer type of equipment with attachments such as bucket; dozer blade; backhoe; post hole digger; grinder/forestry head, grapple, and vibratory roller. Operates over the road CDL equipment such as dump trucks or any conventional truck up to 32,000lbs GVWR. Operates chainsaws, backpack leaf blowers, portable welder/generators, post hole diggers, lawn mowers (push and riding), string trimmers; wood working power tools such as table/radial arm saws, planners, jointers, and routers; and other small, motorized equipment in maintenance of state forest roads, trails and facilities. Uses hand tools including axes, rakes, shovels, pry and digging bars, hammers, saws, drills, etc., in maintenance of state forest facilities. Performs routine scheduled first echelon (operator level) maintenance on all motorized equipment operated, by: checking fluid levels; tightening nuts, bolts, and studs; cleaning equipment; cleaning and/or replacing filters; replacing blades, light bulbs, glass, etc.; fixing/replacing flat tires; changing oils, fluids and filters, greasing and lubricating, etc. Maintains equipment use logs and time records. Performs manual work such as dry stone laying to build head/tail walls using natural mountain stone; janitorial duties such as cleaning picnic areas, latrines, offices, buildings, equipment etc.; shoveling, sweeping, digging, raking, cutting, and dragging, when not operating trucks or equipment. Performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance work on equipment or assists automotive mechanics making major repairs to equipment. After proper training and qualifications, acts as part of district wildland fire crew in prevention, patrol, suppression and prescribed fire activities. Submit to random drug and alcohol testing (Drug Pool) as required by Federal and State law. Other duties as assigned. |
