Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Under the supervision of a Rehabilitation Instructor Supervisor, performs the following responsibilities: Instruct students enrolled in the AST Culinary Arts and Culinary Assistant training programs. Examples of subjects taught include: Careers in Food Service; Career Prepped; Safety; Sanitation; Kitchen Maintenance; Preparation and Service of Food; Tools and Stationary Equipment; Weights & Measures/Recipe Conversion; Nutrition; Baking; Cooking Methods and Techniques; Menu Writing; Marketing; Vending, and Table Service. Culinary Arts units of instruction are designed to develop the student’s skills and knowledge necessary to adequately perform as an entry-level employee in the food service industry. Provide formal classroom and competency based instruction to students through the use of prepared lessons, lectures, Computer Assisted Instruction, appropriate audio visual aides, discussions, textbooks, reference materials, step-by-step demonstrations, external research, reading assignments, and other accepted methods of imparting information to meet the needs of the group or individual. Assign work projects, reports, and homework, all of which are corrected then reviewed with students. Prepare, administer and grade written and oral examinations. Provides accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Remains up to date in teaching modalities and strategies for effective learning of individuals with alternate needs in the classroom and/or supervised laboratory setting. Direct students in the application of theory for the Courtyard Café and all aspects of Vending machine operation. Teach students how to plan and prepare food, stock, and operate Vending machines, and reinforce marketing, promotions, and the selling of Café and Vending products. Responsible for the operation of the Courtyard Café and Vending machines as a laboratory for training and as a service to the students and staff. Maintain regular store services by scheduling hours and personnel and supervising the same. Provide individual assignments and supervision of students during practical training in the Hiram G. Andrews Center’s kitchen and Courtyard Café, various instructional labs, dining rooms, and practicum sites, utilizing accepted methods of teaching. Serve as an Academic Advisor to a group of students. Prepares student schedules, reviews grades and advises students throughout their training program. Research, develop, and evaluate methods for adapting machinery, equipment and techniques to make appropriate adaptations to compensate for the needs of individual students. Assist the supervisory and administrative staff in program development, evaluation, and implementation. Maintain discipline and order in training areas to promote those qualities in students, which are necessary in the food service industry. Maintain accurate grade and attendance records. Submit grade/attendance progress reports, and other pertinent data relative to students via standard procedures. Communicate via telephone, interoffice memorandum, email, and meeting with Center Counselor and other staff members to maintain a cohesive, integrated education program relative to a particular student or for the general student welfare. Counsel students regarding personal, social or educational problems. Develop/maintain a current culinary arts mini-library to be utilized as a reference library for students. Maintain and keep current Serv-Safe Certification, including, Exam Proctor Certification for teaching and exam administration purposes. Order, requisition, and maintain a supply of instructional textbooks, supplies, and equipment as needed. Implement the Governor's Affirmative Action Policy. Serve as a substitute instructor when other instructors are absent or unable to cover their class for whatever reason. Attend faculty meetings, department/unit meetings and discussions as required. Assist with fire drills and other emergency related activities. Arrange and conduct field trips as needed. Conducts program advisory committee meetings as required. Provide tours of HGAC as needed. Provides WIOA compliant and PETS related services. Perform other related duties as requested by Administration. |
