Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is a supervisor position in the Geographic Information Division, Geospatial Services Section, Analytics and Data Processing Unit that is responsible for the creation and maintenance of data for transportation planning and highway engineering.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Supervise the creation and maintenance of desktop and web base maps and data layers for transportation planning and highway engineering.

Supervises the coordination, preparation, and presentation of data required for transportation planning and programming functions.

Supervise the management and execution of emerging Geospatial technologies and techniques such as ArcGIS Online, Model Builder, Network Analyst, and the utilization of Python scripting to support GIS operations as required to support business functions.

Supervise the development and maintenance of web maps, dashboards and applications using ArcGIS Online, Microsoft Power BI and other web development technologies to support the business functions of the Department.

Supervise the testing of new GIS software packages, technologies, and versions in preparation for implementation. Denote incompatibilities with current GIS environment, data models, and software bugs. Weigh against software benefits and then make recommendations on implementation and provide feedback to vendor and GID staff.

Supervise support, technical assistance, and troubleshooting through Service Desk activities for Central Office bureaus and Districts.

Publish, maintain, and routinely contribute to a PennDOT Division Hub Page as a means to disseminate transportation planning and highway engineering information to educate users.

Work is assigned by the Geospatial Services Section Manager. All work assigned is monitored daily to ensure completion by established times and reviewed for completeness and accuracy.
In the absence of the section manager the Division Manager or the Bureau Director will assign work.
