Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Primary Duties: ---Surveys timber sale boundaries, block lines, haul road, areas containing vegetation inhibiting regeneration, deer fence boundaries, etc. Maintains complete survey notes to provide your supervisor or designee at the completion of the task. Surveying may entail the use of conventional compass and chain or GPS technology. ---Measures and marks trees in accordance with silvicultural prescriptions developed by foresters. This work includes but is not limited to determining tree diameters, tree height, tree grade, cull deductions and volumes. Provides the information collected on tally sheets or data collectors to supervisor or designee. ---Conducts regeneration field assessments in areas designated by supervisor or designee. This includes but is not limited to determining seedling/sapling counts and tree seedling species identification. ---Assists supervisor in forest resource planning to include the scouting of forest disturbance from windstorm, insects, disease, etc. ---Maintains State Forest boundary lines. ---Assists with the district’s forest regeneration program to include the assessment of competing vegetation, tree planting, monitoring/maintaining tree planting sites and seed collection. ---Assists with the district’s deer exclosure projects to include design, construction, maintenance, inspection and evaluation. Provides data and other information collected to supervisor or her designee. ---Scales logs and trees for sale as timber or fuelwood from programs and projects as directed. Provides tallies and/or volumes to supervisor or designee. ---Collects technical information for landscape exams and other inventories as directed ---Uses various outreach methods and venues to promote management activities. ---Interacts with natural resource managers and professionals to develop a relationship that will foster forest stewardship and the long-term sustainability (e.g., consulting foresters, industrial foresters, loggers, sawmill owners, timber buyers) ---Conducts and assists with programs, workshops, tours and other information and education efforts to promote district programs and activities ---Performs similar duties as above on private and other public lands as directed by his/her supervisor. Other Related Duties: ---Monitors and reports insect and disease to the district insect and disease coordinator ---Assists with insect and disease suppression projects as directed ---Provides support to the district’s fire suppression organization as directed ---Conducts aerial patrols and wildfire observation flights during periods of high fire danger as directed ---Assists with district prescribed fire program as directed ---Assists with fire suppression training sessions as directed ---Assists with fire prevention outreach efforts as directed Other Duties: ---Attend trainings and meetings. ---Perform duties in a safe, organized and efficient manner ---Assist with search and rescue projects when directed ---Assist with other projects and performs other duties as directed |
