This position will function as a staff member in the Department of Corrections, Bureau of Operations under the supervision of the Bureau’s Director. This position serves as a facility maintenance consultant with an emphasis on both electronics and technical assistance in physical protection systems. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Provide technical and administrative assistance in the design and evaluation of perimeter intrusion detection systems, CCTV systems, telecommunications systems and other electronic security technologies for the Department of Corrections and support DOC interests in DGS managed projects in these areas. Collaborate with the Bureau of Operations and attend job conferences, review project status and inspect site work for adherence to DOC policy, facility resources and contract documents. As part of this role, this person will provide technical, administrative support to facility maintenance managers and institutional Executive Staff. Will serve as a subject matter expert for perimeter intrusion detection systems, CCTV systems, access controls, and other electronic security technologies for the Department of Corrections. Serves as a member of the Department’s Continuity of Government Relocation Team. In the event that the essential functions of Central Office must be temporarily relocated to a field location, due to an emergency, this position will participate on the Relocation Team and perform all duties as directed by the team leader. Chairs the PIDS/Camera committee which assesses the security needs for all of the SCIs and CCCs. In addition, this person as the technical expert, works with procurement to develop ITQs and reviews all bids for services for security technologies. Travel to all SCI facilities for annual visits which may include overnight stays as dictated by each institution’s needs and related construction. Advises lower-level management staff in the implementation of all building, electronics, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical maintenance & repair; provides guidance to maintenance personnel; provides support in installation of security technology equipment; reviews work for adherence to construction documents, technical trade’s standards, codes and policy. Serve as the Project Manager for preliminary planning meetings, develop budgetary estimates for agency projects, review and comment on design documents, preceding construction with respect to policy, facility resources, sequencing and continuity of operations and programs and coordinate resources on projects throughout all constructions processes. This position will also be responsible for performing inspections to determine the degree of reliability of the project operating equipment and dependability of all aspects of project. Communicate and inform technical staff of current status and developments related to facility operations, infrastructure and projects. Represent the Department in the planning and review process, attending design meetings and construction conferences held with design professionals, contractors, and inspectors. Perform progress inspections to determine completeness and conformance of the project to contract documents, verifying work to ensure it adheres to construction standards, and advising on whether a construction project is accepted as complete by the Department of Corrections. Keeps apprised of emerging security technology and advise executive staff on appropriate applications. Provide guidance to EDSI, BFSSO Director, and Facility leadership regarding the installation and operation of security technology equipment within DOC Facilities. Assist in developing training programs that provides technical education and training of the Corrections Facility Maintenance Managers as it relates to the Corrections environment. Assist in the coordination of Bureau staff work assignments. Attend and participate in conferences and seminars with state and private industry. Assist in the periodic inspections of all facility physical plants. Prepare advisory reports for the Director of the BFSSO. Conduct Security and Vulnerability Assessments. Assist with developing and conducting training for various security technology systems utilized by the Department. Essential Functions continued: 11. Operate basic office equipment 12. The job duties will change as projects dictate, therefore the Bureau Director will assign all work on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis depending on the scope and size of the various projects as well as all other related duties. Calculations and results for each project will be discussed and reviewed for its merit, feasibility and cost with the Bureau Director prior to approval.
