Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Planned working time percentages are approximate and can change on a daily basis due to operational needs. 8% Assists with coordinating nursing service activities and other services with a goal toward higher standards and better resident care. 8% Develops attitudes of good rapport among the nursing staff. Develops a resident-centered attitude and respect for resident dignity. 8% Maintains knowledge of current developments in the field of nursing, administrative aspects in particular, and nursing practices and techniques in general, follows hospital/nursing policies and procedures. 8% Coordinates continuity of resident care and effects solutions to cross-shift problems with other shift supervisors. 7% Prepares performance evaluations and other progress records of nursing personnel. Counsels professional and nonprofessional subordinates as necessary. Instructs nursing staff as needed. Plans and assigns the work of all assigned professional and sub-professional nursing employees. Prepares time schedules and keeps time-related records. 7% Supports all formal teaching within the Facility and makes recommendations to the in-service department for educational programs. 7% Attends seminars and workshops as assigned, participates in in-service and out-service training, and otherwise disseminates pertinent information and teaches nursing techniques to the nursing staff. Serves on committees as appointed. 6% Supervises all nursing services on an eight-hour shift in accordance with established state and federal regulations, standards of the Facility, and policies of the nursing department. Assumes administrative responsibility in the absence of superiors. 6% Maintains an understanding attitude toward and a harmonious relationship with all residents and residents’ families. 6% Specifically is aware of conditions of critically ill and seriously ill residents, those exhibiting any unusual or abnormal symptoms or behavior, and incidents and accidents. 6% Directs, supervises, and reviews the work of all assigned nursing personnel, their application of nursing personnel, their application of nursing techniques to routine and complex resident care situations. 6% Assures ultimate utilization of staff, adjusting staffing patterns as necessary for adequate resident coverage. Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with professional and nonprofessional personnel in all departments in the Facility. 6% Evaluates own performance in light of personal goals and Facility standards. Reports to and consults with the Director of Nursing routinely. Serving in the capacity of Resident Abuse Investigator, attends relevant training and conducts investigations into allegations of abusive resident treatment. 5% Makes rounds of inspection, reviewing implementation of quality resident care, rehabilitation programs, care of living area equipment, housekeeping, and health and safety conditions. Employs nursing audits as tools for evaluation. 5% Performs related work as required. 1% Consults with attending physician as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1.
