Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is part of the Park Ranger and visitor service staff of French Creek Complex. This is a non-law enforcement position. In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Public contact person in park office and throughout the park complex. While traveling through the parks employee is responsible for promoting the safe use of the state park facilities by meeting park visitors and providing them with information or directing them to the appropriate person for further assistance or information.

Assists with office operations, fielding phone calls, operate radio, computer and other office equipment. Researches park information, issues watercraft and firewood permits, performs other office tasks assigned by supervisor or Park Manager.

Prepares and delivers environmental/historical and other park related education programs as directed. Does research for interpretive materials.

Organizes and supervises volunteer projects.

Ensures that the campground contact station is fully supplied.

Must be knowledgeable of all park facilities and area attractions. Provide information on hiking, picnicking, fishing, camping, hunting, swimming, boating, winter activities and other park functions as well as facilities in the surrounding areas. Handles incoming written requests,

Keeps the contact station and park office neat, clean and organized.

Uses Pennsylvania State Parks Reservations & Revenue System

Puts out keys and does through inspection of overnight facility’s prepares and prints permits and various reservation reports

Performs some maintenance duties including but not limited to; litter pickup, sign painting, trail marking and other tasks assigned by supervisor or Park Manager.

Will maintain kiosks, information centers, fills map boxes, and dog bag boxes.

Maintains Commonwealth vehicles and automotive records by: correctly filling out vehicle operating record; dispensing oil and gas for vehicles used and filling out automotive oil/gas log; keeping vehicle fluids at recommended levels; checking and adjusting tire pressure as required; reporting vehicle malfunctions; cleaning vehicle interior regularly and washing assigned vehicles as directed.

Monitors State Park facilities and park visitors by foot, vehicle, bicycle or boat.
Helps secure park visitor compliance with park rules and regulations by informing visitors of said rules and regulations firmly but with courtesy and tact within the framework of the Bureau and Departmental policies.

Takes action during emergencies; providing First Aid/CPR as needed, directing traffic, participate in search and rescue operations, and other tasks assigned by supervisor or Park Manager.

Assists PA Fish and Game personnel by seeking park visitor compliance with their regulations and providing related information as requested.

Operates park two-way radio system by communicating in a clear, concise manner, consistent with standard radio procedures and FCC regulations.

Opens and closes park gates and buildings as directed by the supervisor or Park Manager.
Must be able to work weekends, holidays and varying shifts in all kinds of weather.
Must effectively participate in traffic control during busy park times, as directed by supervisor, when adequately trained.

this position is primarily clerical in nature keeping the park office and contact station open and operating.

This position will work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work is assigned verbally and in writing. Routine tasks are recognized by personal observation and adherence to seasonal patterns. Non-routine work is indicated by communication with supervisor and priorities are determined.

Work is reviewed by briefings with supervisor, visits to sites and review of completed tasks. Spot checks are done throughout the day, and tasks are sometimes changed due to changing conditions.

Law Enforcement questions should be referred to the Ranger Supervisor.

Policy questions, press inquiries, Legislature contacts, should be referred the Park Manager.

Essential Functions
