Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position is responsible for training and overseeing inmate workers involved in the loading and unloading of freight. The incumbent of this position may participate in the performance of the work completed by inmate workers. Additionally, this position is responsible for transporting freight for the Department of Corrections (DOC) Correctional Industries (CI) Regional Laundry Operation located within the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Benner Township. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 75% Operates tractor-trailers, trucks, and other motor vehicles in the completion of daily work assignments. Performs routine vehicle maintenance and safety checks. Performs minor equipment repairs. Completes and turns in associated receipts, reports, and logs in accordance with governing policies, procedures, and guidelines. 15% Oversees inmate workers in the completion of work assignments. Conducts inmate worker orientation, which includes reviewing facility and plant regulations, job requirements, safety tips, etc. Trains and monitors inmate workers in the proper methods of trailer loading and unloading; minor equipment repair, and completion of bills of lading. Prepares routine reports that include inmate attendance, lost hours, inmate bonuses, etc. Provides input into inmate worker performance reviews. 5% Safeguards work area. Issues and inventories all materials and tools used to complete work assignments. Searches inmates and work areas for contraband. 5% Performs other related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS CONT’D 11. Use and maintain various equipment and tools used in freight terminal operations 12. Operate basic office equipment 13. Maintain an active PA Commercial Driver’s License supplemented by the endorsements required by law for operation of equipment utilized by the DOC; Provide notification to Supervisor if driving privileges hare suspended on next day of work. 14. Properly wear all portions of assigned uniform 15. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing 16. Establish and maintain effective working relationships 17. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) 18. Visually observe inmates’ activities 19. Administer emergency medical assistance to inmates and staff 20. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 21. Travel as required |
