Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Plans, develops, coordinates and presents environmental education and interpretive programs and activities at the Presque Isle State Park Complex. Facilitates environmental education and interpretive activities by conducting discovery learning activities, audiovisual presentations, teacher workshops, staff workshops and other environmental learning programs. Provides assistance to educational institutions, civic groups, and public organizations in developing and implementing environmental education and interpretive curriculum. Responsible for planning and maintaining exhibits and interactive activities at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center. Maintains all natural, historic, cultural, and archeological collections. Assists in researching and developing educational brochures and publications. Assists in research and development of interpretive wayside exhibits. This includes but is not limited to writing wayside plans, reviewing and developing text and locating applicable graphic elements. Coordinates the use, repair, and maintenance of environmental education and interpretive equipment. Develops and presents localized special activities for park visitors and environmental and interpretive programs focusing on localized natural history, historic and cultural events, and environmental management issues for students, youth groups, special populations, civic organizations and others as requested. Facilitates guided walks, hikes and paddles and presents programs which includes preparation of lesson plans. Establishes and maintains working relationships with local, state and federal conservation groups, civic organizations, schools, and the public concerning environmental education and interpretive programs. Prepares letters, press releases, memoranda, correspondence, reports, lesson plans and other written materials as required. Assists in developing and submitting the yearly program plan and updates to the park’s Environmental Education and Interpretive Prospectus as needed. Operates the pontoon boat and performs routine pontoon programs as well as special requests. Assists in various aspects of resource management projects at Presque Isle. Responsible for developing and conducting a series of recreation-based interpretive programs at Presque Isle and Erie Bluffs State Parks. Assists in the development of various internal staff trainings and activities. Integrates the Department of Education’s Environment & Ecology Standards into new curriculum. Assists in the development of a Presque Isle-specific curriculum to be used at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center at Presque Isle State Park. Researches and submits various grant proposals to help augment the educational and interpretive program offerings. This includes, but is not limited to, the Environmental Education Fund. Conducts annual teacher workshops in curriculum such as Watershed Education, Project Learning Tree & PA Songbirds. Other teacher workshops are available upon request. Develops and conducts DiscoverE programming. Assists in the coordination of the DCNR Conservation Volunteer program at the Presque Isle State Park Complex. Coordinates and assists with major events such as but not limited to the annual Spring Clean-Up, International Coastal Clean-Up,Scout Days and Home School Days. Travels to various work locations. Perform similar work as required. |
