Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position provides skills to accomplish the construction of new buildings, as well as the maintenance and improvements of existing facilities, machinery, and equipment in the Mt. Davis Division. Work involves working in several trades at a journey level. Work includes leading a small group of semi skilled workers.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Work duties include maintaining state forest roads, boundary lines, hiking trails, and motorized campsites. The job also includes operating power and hand tools; repairing or installing electrical systems; installing and maintaining plumbing fixtures; installing drain and sewer lines; maintaining and replacing bathroom fixtures; repairing or replacing concrete blocks, bricks, or masonry; making roof repairs; installing flashing and spouts; installing ceiling tile; welding and brazing metals; maintaining firefighting equipment and tools; maintaining and repairing the vehicles and equipment assigned to the Division. Assists with surveying and maintenance of the state forest boundary line. Assists with the winter recreation program by plowing snow on state forest roads and parking lots to allow access by the public. Assists with the grooming of snowmobile trails in the Laurel Mtn. and Mt. Davis Divisions to provide the best snowmobile conditions. Clears and brushes trails and roads as needed.

The Mt. Davis Division maintains a large sign network designating roads and hiking trails. Work includes layout, lettering, routing, painting, installation and normal maintenance of the state forest signs.

Employee is directed to help conduct prescribed fires.

Performs manual work as assigned.

Other duties include daily maintenance of the Mt. Davis Shop plus the vehicles, machinery, and equipment assigned there. Jobs performed are sweeping, mopping floors, dusting, cleaning restrooms, cleaning, repairing, sharpening, and returning tools to their proper place, checking oil, checking tire pressure, changing tires, washing vehicles, vehicle maintenance and mowing grass.

Assists the Forest Fire Specialist Supervisor with the maintenance of forest fire fighting equipment. These tools include backpack tanks, rakes, and gasoline powered portable pumps, and chain saws. During periods of high fire danger, helps patrol rural areas and assist with the suppression of forest fires. Employee is to respond to wildfires and other emergencies as a firefighter, single resource, or function in a support position when requested.

Work duties include trail rehabilitation using chain saws, pruning shears, shovels, pruning saws, picks, and mattocks. These items are used to lay out new trails, widen trails, install drainage, brush and maintain existing trails.

Assists the public by giving directions and hands out information about state forest lands.

Plants and maintains wildlife areas for game propagation and management. This includes planting new seedlings, mowing the areas with a brush hog, hydraulic sickle bars attached to tractor, pruning trees, and top dressing area.

Operates equipment, such as chain saws, farm and lawn tractors, dump trucks and snowmobiles. Constructs signs for use on the snowmobile, hiking, and cross-country ski trails; operates welding and torching equipment; resurfaces bridges on state forest roads and trails; rebuilds stone headwalls on culverts; clears and enlarges parking lots; paints and clears state forest boundary line.

Performs similar work as required.
