Position Purpose:

Provides transportation services to support the operations of Norristown State Hospital

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Responsible for the maintenance, repair and inspection of all automotive and miscellaneous equipment assigned to the hospital. This equipment includes automobiles, truck and vans.
Miscellaneous equipment includes all heavy equipment such as the bulldozer, front end loaders, diesel power RTV, grass cutting equipment and many other smaller pieces of maintenance equipment. Major tasks performed by this position are:
-Inspection of all vehicles in compliance with State rules and regulations on State Inspections.
-Preventive Maintenance lubrication, oil and filter changes. Visual safety inspection.-Tune-ups, replacing of plugs,cap & rotor, wires or service electronic ignition parts such as the electronic pick-up, reluctor and the ignition module. Set all engines to factory specs using equipment available.
-Drive trains major repairs to clutch, pressure plate, fly wheel and components of entire drive train, which include drive shaft, universal joints, differentials, axles and bearings.
-Components complete repair, overall or replacement of components such as starters, alternators, heater motors, wiper motor, compressors, water p umps, A.I.R. pumps, exhaust systems, hydraulic lifts, kingpins, springs, shocks, door latches, switches, tires, wheel bearings, batteries, cooling systems, P.T.O. units, and any related unit or component.
-Welding and burning use acetylene torch to cut steel, rusted bolts or exhaust pipes.
-Use arc welder to weld steel for fabricating or repairing as needed.
-Minor body and fender work includes repair of small dents and scratches not covered by insurance claims. Painting and refinishing on a journeyman’s level.
-Cleaning tools and work area. Maintain storage area in a neat and orderly manner.
-Employee must possess a valid Inspection License.
