This position exists for the operation and maintenance of state park facilities at the Laurel Hill Complex. This position contributes to the bureau's mission of protecting and maintaining the commonwealth's natural resources. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Operates specialized equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, high-lifts or front-end loaders with a bucket capacity of three cubic yards or more which are used in general construction, maintenance or grounds work, including snow removal and cindering operations, as needed. In addition, will operate skid loaders, tractors, mowers, trucks, UTV’s. Operates vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more, such as tankers, dump trucks and bucket truck, which are used in general construction, maintenance or grounds work as needed. This may include pulling a CDL trailer. Maintain and improve system of dirt and gravel roads, shelter access roads, trails and administrative roads. This includes, but is not limited to cleaning ditches, berms, and culverts. Also includes installation of headwalls where appropriate. Utilize vacuum truck to convey sewage from both KOOS and LARI. Also involves assisting neighboring parks in emergency situations. Performs manual work on assigned projects when not operating equipment, including the loading and unloading of trucks. Install and repair underground utilities including water, sewer, and electric. Maintenance consists of lubricating the various equipment, changing the oil, fuel and air filters. Sharpen mower blades and make visual checks for worn or broken parts. Fill out daily records of fuel and oil used, the time used or mileage and the location where the equipment was used. Assist the Park’s Maintenance Repairman in major repairs to Park vehicles and equipment. Completes safety checks and inspections of equipment prior to operation and maintains records of operated equipment including those of commercial vehicles exceeding 32,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, as appropriate. Demonstrates the operation of assigned equipment to other employees. Repairs, and maintains buildings, as needed. Install and repair windows and doors. Does rough and finished carpentry on all park buildings. Re-roofs old and new building roofs in all three (3) parks. Helps design and fabricate wooden structures for old historic buildings, such as old fireplace mantels, old doors and windows, and historic stone work built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). Builds and repairs docks for lakes, ADA handicap ramps, wooden hand rails and steps. Install and maintain all fire lines for resource management related projects and prescribed fire activities. Performs masonry and tile work on sign supports, buildings, foundations, support walls, footers, and chimneys. Repairs and constructs park buildings and additions, using power and hand tools, special carpenter tools, lathes, jointers, etc. Repairs old and new chimneys with special color cements. Keeps historic buildings stone work painted and protected from the elements of weather. Performs initial electrical wiring of buildings, as well as, rewiring and repairing of switches, receptacles, and lighting fixtures. Remove hazardous trees as needed. Performs other related work as required. Must maintain Class A CDL License with endorsement “N” (tanker). |
