Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provides custodial and trades support to the County Maintenance Organization to assure routine sanitation and to extend the useful life of existing structures.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Assists with custodial duties such as cleaning, washing and waxing floors, polishing furniture and fixtures, cleaning lavatories and trash removal.

Responsible for ground maintenance such as mowing, raking, landscaping, and snow removal. Assists in keeping immediate outside premises and building entrances in orderly condition. Moves furniture and equipment. Paints interior or exterior surfaces as assigned.

Makes simple maintenance repairs to buildings and facilities by using tools of carpentry, electrical, plumbing and other building trades. Minor work to include repairs to existing facilities or additions to or construction of maintenance building facilities to ensure a clean and safe work environment. Assists skilled staff with major repairs or maintenance in these areas.

Maintains fire extinguishers, emergency generator, underground storage tank leak detection, and safety items within building and yard. Performs security gate repair on yard gate.

Assists skilled workers as required on a variety of projects.

Delivers supplies and runs errands as incidental assignments.

Performs a variety of manual laboring duties using both motorized and non-motorized hand tools. Properly uses and maintains equipment and tools. Reports missing or broken equipment to supervisor.

Performs and documents pre-operation and post-operation checks, material usage, and make necessary adjustments to permit safe operation.

Properly, and in a timely manner, completes work in accordance with written or verbal instruction from supervisor.

Maintains a safe working area and maintains safe work practices. Uses personal protective equipment. Maintains awareness of work area, helping others to avoid risks and hazards. Properly reports personal injuries and equipment accidents immediately to supervisor.

Follows proper attendance and call of procedures, schedules non-emergency absences and leave in advance, observes start/stop times, breaks and meal times, works efficiently and effectively, both alone and with others.

Implements the environmental protection requirements of maintenance work activities performed by the employee. Also fulfills the environmental management requirements designated for this title in environmental training programs.

Recognizing that everyone is involved in the District’s and County’s actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices, employee fulfills the Maintenance Unit Business Plan objectives related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP). Also, supports the efforts of managers, supervisors, and other employees to meet these objectives.

Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Safety:

3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss.
4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident.
5. Evaluate the contractor’s operations: Immediately stop any unsafe actions. Engage in an ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership.
6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value: Immediately stop any unsafe actions. Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions. Continuously communicate the safety direction. Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety. Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving your staff. Recognize safety daily. Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements. Learn and improve through After Action Reviews (AARs). Enforce accountability.

Succession Planning:
Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.

Department Green Plan Policy:
Commit to following the Department’s Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principles. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA):
Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0 hour day.
