Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position exists for the operation and maintenance of state park facilities, vehicles and equipment at the Laurel Hill Complex. This position performs duties that are routinely executed seven days a week and will routinely be scheduled to work weekends, evenings and holidays as needed for park operations and to meet seasonal needs |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. The employee does Journeyman Maintenance Repairman 2 work in the building and maintenance of the Laurel Hill Complex including Laurel Hill, Kooser and Laurel Ridge State Parks. Repairs, and maintains all the parks buildings. Install and repair windows and doors. Does rough and finished carpentry on all park buildings. Re-roofs old and new building roofs in all three (3) parks. Helps design and fabricate wooden structures for old historic buildings, such as old fireplace mantels, old doors and windows, and historic stone work built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). Builds and repairs docks for lakes, ADA handicap ramps, wooden hand rails and steps. Performs plumbing and electrical work in all buildings and campgrounds. This includes all overnight accommodations. Performs masonry and tile work on sign supports, buildings, foundations, support walls, footers, and chimneys. Repairs and constructs park buildings and additions. Repairs old and new chimneys with special color cements. Keeps historic buildings stone work painted and protected from the elements of weather. Tools and equipment utilized to carry out the duties of this position include, but are not limited to: power and hand tools, special carpenter tools, lathes, and jointers, mechanics tool set, lubrication system, battery charger, tire repair kits, wheel balance, hydraulic lift, tire changer, gear pullers, floor jacks, spark plug cleaner, air compressor, cutting, burning and welding torches, drills, grinders, sanders, arc welders, drill press, paint sprayers, power washer, volt/amp tester, battery tester, chain hoists, and various other tools that may be required to complete tasks. Assists equipment operator in the operation of backhoes, skid steers with various attachments, front end loaders, dump trucks, snowplows & various other related types of equipment. Scrapes, sands, and paints interior and exterior of park buildings. Paints and stains group camp buildings and family cabins. Seals cabin chimneys and stone work with water sealers. Builds and paints old and new park signs. Performs initial electrical wiring of buildings, as well as, rewiring and repairing of switches, receptacles, and lighting fixtures. Repairs electrical devices, such as refrigerators, heaters, and stoves using various electrical tools, and testing devices. The employee also does automotive maintenance repair work. This includes but is not limited to: body repairs (welding with electric or acetylene), painting, oil changes, lubes, brakes and tire repairs. Inspects equipment and vehicles routinely and performs preventative maintenance. Acts as lead worker to other classifications and oversees or assists with listed duties. Performs maintenance and repairs to small gasoline engines to include push mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, chain saws, log splitters, pressure washers, generators, snow blowers and boat motors. Performs emergency road service. Operates equipment around the shop or in the field when making repairs, for testing and to assist with efficient operations. Instructs employees in proper preventative maintenance and operation procedures for various vehicles and equipment when needed. Maintains shop area, tools and equipment in a clean usable condition. Keeps an inventory of assigned tools, equipment and repair parts and materials such as tires, batteries and filters. Completes necessary forms and reports involving receipt of equipment, tools, paint, lumber, custodial supplies, etc. Uses blueprints, drawings, and schematics to troubleshoot equipment, and facility issues. Performs related work as required |

Employee is expected to make decisions based on procedures, policies, and regulations. Special assignments are explained in detail both verbally and in writing. Purchases repair parts, materials and supplies according to state purchasing procedures. Makes arrangements for repairs at dealerships and repair shops when the scope or number of needed repairs is beyond what equipment is available. Diagnoses problems on all equipment and repairs or coordinates repairs to equipment. |
