Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This wage position is semi-skilled manual work that entails routine construction and maintenance of the facilities in the Laurel Mtn. Division of the Forbes State Forest. Also works in other divisions and the District Office as required. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. The Laurel Mountain Division maintains a large signage presence on extensive trail systems. This position maintains those signs by constructing new signs (cutting,layout, routering, painting) and installing them throughout the trail system. Clears roads and trails of brush and fallen trees using brush cutters (both manual and motorized) and chainsaws. Clears, paints and maintains State Forest boundary lines. Cleans restrooms/latrines, picks up trash and debris. Installs and maintains culverts and headwalls/tailwalls on roads and trails. Plows and shovels snow in winter and mows grass (including weed-whacking) in summer. Performs basic maintenance (includes oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotation, washing and waxing, etc.) on vehicles and machinery. Maintains/mows roadsides and wildlife openings using brush hogs and debris blowers mounted on farm tractors. Installs, paints and maintains gates. Assists in all aspects of facility and infrastructure maintenance including light carpentry (construction and installation of signs), electrical (changing receptacles and lighting fixtures), and plumbing (cleaning clogged drains and repairing leaks). Operates product moving equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, tractors and skid steers as directed. Employee is required to respond to wildfires and other emergencies (search and rescue) as a firefighter, single resource, or function in a support position when requested. Actively participates with prescribed fire as directed. Assists in grooming snowmobile trails as directed. Assists Foresters with all aspects of state forest management. Performs other duties as required. |
