Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Apply engineering principles, practices, and sound judgment within the operations unit to ensure compliance with applicable standards, specifications, policies, regulations, and departmental procedures. Performs engineering reviews, analysis, design, permitting, operational evaluations, construction support, and coordination activities related to applicable operations units: traffic signals, traffic studies, & freeway operations. Reviews and prepares plans, reports, studies, permits, specifications, cost estimates, conceptual layouts, and supporting documentation associated with operations unit activities. Conducts traffic studies and operational analyses using engineering judgment, field investigations, crash analysis, and traffic engineering software and tools. Reviews consultant submissions, traffic studies, permit applications, and construction plans to ensure compliance with federal and departmental standards, policies, and operational objectives. Supports the operation, maintenance, and management of applicable operations unit programs, including asset inventories, traffic databases, and related record systems. Assists in the development, monitoring, and coordination of operational and maintenance contracts and provides technical support during construction and implementation activities. Coordinates and communicates with municipalities, consultants, contractors, maintenance forces, law enforcement agencies, community groups, and internal department units regarding project-related concerns. Investigates and responds to citizen and municipal inquiries and provides technical recommendations and engineering support related to traffic operations and safety matters. Participates in continuing education and training opportunities to maintain current knowledge of traffic engineering, transportation operations, and safety standards and practices. Assists with training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer activities for staff, interns, and trainees. Performs other related duties as assigned. Safety Responsibilities: Assess work environments and maintain responsibility for the safety of employees, contractors, coworkers, and the traveling public. Attend required safety training and comply with all safety policies, procedures, manuals, and regulations. Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, or unsafe practices to supervision. Promote a culture that emphasizes safety as a core organizational value through communication, accountability, proactive engagement, and continuous improvement. Succession Planning: Participate in career development, succession planning, and knowledge transfer activities in coordination with supervision to support workforce development and continuity of operations. Department Green Plan Policy: Commit to following the Department’s Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and associated principles in support of environmental compliance and stewardship responsibilities. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Unless otherwise directed by supervision, comply with established work hours and attendance requirements. |
