Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

An employee in this job receives structured and on-the-job training designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary in identification and non-identification of individuals through automated and manual fingerprint and palm print examination, comparison, and verification. Work involves assisting with assessing print quality, identifying print classification patterns, scanning prints and entering arrest data into the Multimodal Biometric Identification System (MBIS), querying the system and examining possible matches, verifying matches, and maintaining records. Work is performed with greater independence as learning progresses and technical proficiency is achieved. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Fingerprint Technician Supervisor who reviews work in progress and upon completion for accuracy, quality, and adherence to established standards, policies, and procedures.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

35% 1. Participates in formal training sessions, seminars, workshops, and on-the-job work experiences to introduce and familiarize the trainee with fingerprint identification skills.

20% 2. Assists in processing fingerprints and palm prints of individuals submitted by a law enforcement or governmental agency.

20% 3. Assists in performing side-by-side image comparisons of the source prints to possible matches generated by the MBIS.

10% 4. Assists in performing print card control by assessing print quality and processing prints that meet standards for input to the MBIS.

10% 5. Assists in performing corrective actions in MBIS to ensure the integrity of federal and Commonwealth print records.

5% 6. Provides and maintains electronic and hardcopy print files and records.

Ensure fingerprints are in the proper sequence for editing.
If a fingerprint error was made by a Criminal Justice Agency or Vendor the resolution will be determined by a supervisor.
