Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The Custodial Worker I in this position performs a variety of manual and machine operating tasks under the general direction of the Custodial Work Supervisor in the custodial care of public or institutional buildings and surrounding grounds. An employee in this class performs a variety of tasks in connection with cleaning functions and is accountable to safely use appropriate custodial supplies and modern cleaning equipment, and may involve the moving and lifting of heavy furniture. Work is performed in accordance with a well established routine, and is subject to inspection during progress or upon completion for attainment of established standards of cleanliness. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. This employee will be accountable to safely maintain the cleanliness of the physical plant through cleaning techniques outlined in the Housekeeping Procedure Manual, completing Daily Reports, as well as, verbal and written instruction to insure a clean and sanitary environment. Areas maintained include, but are not limited to, bedrooms, lounges, bathrooms, shower rooms, entrances, hallways, visiting rooms, dining rooms, offices, program areas, break rooms, linen rooms, mop closets, clinics, stairwells, etc. The employee when housekeeping tasks as assigned by the supervisor are completed within specified timeframes, tasks are completed in accordance with the Housekeeping Procedure Manual and areas are clean and odor free. This employee will be accountable to safely operate mechanical housekeeping equipment by following operator’s instructions, the Housekeeping Procedure Manual and using proper safety techniques to insure efficiency and safety in cleaning. The employee will when all equipment has been operated according to requirements for efficiency and safety, breakdown is not due to negligence or operator error, equipment breakdowns are reported to supervisor before end of shift, the preventive maintenance schedule is followed and all equipment is cleaned and stored after each use. This employee will be accountable to safely chose the most effective cleaning tool and product by following the MSDS sheets PPE’s and guidelines outlined as well as the Housekeeping Procedure Manual to insure efficiency and safety in cleaning. The employee will when all tasks are completed using proper cleaning tools as well as products MSDS sheets PPE’s and guidelines outlined according to manufacturer’s directions and tools and products are used in accordance with the Housekeeping Procedure Manual. This employee requests needed housekeeping equipment and supplies through written/verbal communications to the Housekeeping Office to insure supplies are available when needed. The employee when a week’s supply of cleaning products is available and spare tools are maintained to allow for normal replacement time from Institutional Stores and Central Housekeeping. This employee will be accountable to safely maintain conditions in entrance ways by eliminating hazardous conditions to prevent accidents. The employee will when snow, ice and excessive water are removed immediately when unsafe conditions exist. This employee will develops housekeeping skills by recognizing training needs, requesting training and participating in in-service training sessions in order to improve present skills and develop new skills to meet the needs of Selinsgrove Center. The employee recognizes he/she does not have the necessary skills to perform a task assigned and requests training immediately and 80% of in-service training sessions scheduled at the facility and approved by administration are attended. 1. Disinfect, seal, dust and buff floors 2. Disinfect, dust and polish furniture and fixtures 3. Cleans entry walks, entranceways and immediate outside building premises by shoveling snow and sweeping. 4. Reports needed repairs to supervisor 5. Move furniture and equipment from area to area and building to building. 6. Determine what areas are dirty and identify what has to be cleaned for the assignment completion and infection control 7. Recognizes, stores and be accountable to safely use appropriate cleaning chemicals for surfaces 8. Recognizes, stores and be accountable to safely use appropriate cleaning equipment for performing work assignments 9. Recognize appropriate clean and soiled linen carts for living areas and communities. 10. Able to lift up to 50 pounds of weight without assistance and 51 pounds or more with assistance 11. Able to lift at shoulder level or above several times during the shift. 12. Recognize, remove and replace trash liners when full or soiled and refill with appropriate size and color. 13. Maintains areas in a clean and odor free environment 14. Requests equipment and supplies when needed. 15. Ability to learn the materials, methods, and procedures used to perform your assignment. 16. Comprehend and communicate both oral and written instructions with all staff 17. Recognizes, uses and stores appropriate and approved cleaning products according to the manufacturers specifications and MSDS sheet’s PPE’s 18. The ability to use household grade crawling / flying insect killer spray for small infestations. |
