Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Repairs, maintains and installs wiring, motors, transformers, generators, lighting and other electrical systems. To provide electrical maintenance as part of multi disciplined team of maintenance trades personnel engaged in the day-to-day services to the PA Fish and Boat Commission.

Description of Duties:

An employee is this class is responsible for performing skilled tasks in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade. Considerable latitude is allowed in determining methods of work procedure, and employees are frequently assisted by, and act as a lead worker to sub-journeyman helpers.

Works from oral and written instructions, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings and codebooks. Has a broad knowledge of applied electrical practices, techniques and theory of operation of electrical and electronic equipment and controls.

Work is usually assigned by a technical supervisor and is ordinarily checked by observation of the performance of the equipment installed, repaired or maintained.

Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits, installs and repairs electrical motors, motor controllers, relays, light switches and controls, power circuits and stand-by electrical generators.

Lay out and installs electrical conduits for power and lighting.

Installs, trouble shoots, maintains and repairs electronic controls that require advanced technical knowledge including: Unit heaters, fans, circulating pumps, refrigeration units, PLC’s, light fixtures, open and concealed wiring and other electrical equipment.

Repairs are generally done while power is off. “Hot” repair is made under supervision and authorized conditions on lines up to 400 volts.

Works off ladders and catwalks.

Time, balances and correlates electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems of automatic machine tools to give uniform horsepower output for any given speed or feed, using testing equipment as necessary.

Able to diagnose and remedy electrical problems on all electrical apparatus including power circuits, motors and generators.

Frequent overnight travel is required which includes a modified work schedule consisting of three ten hour days and one seven and a half hour day.

To train journeymen and other employees on specific skills and tasks as required.

Assists plumber to cut and thread pipe, solders copper pipes, cuts and fits PVC plastic pipe.

Operate a high ranger bucket truck.

Perform related work as required.
