Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant position is part of the Occupational Therapy Program, under the Clinical Services Department. The employee selects and plans the use of occupational therapy techniques and media to achieve occupational therapy treatment goals for adult patients, from all units on campus, within individual and group settings, under the supervision and in collaboration with licensed occupational therapists. An employee in this position also keeps clinical and departmental records, maintains departmental order, supplies and safety and provides feedback about patient response to treatment. Chief Physical Therapist supervises the OT Program. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. * Selects, plans, and conducts treatment sessions in Occupational Therapy programming in group and individual settings and escorts patients as needed. * Exhibits good time management skills. * Positions patients while sitting or lying to maintain optimal postural alignment, protect skin integrity, reduce pain and optimize safety. *Cultivates basic wheelchair fitting and positioning skills. * Communicates to supervisor regarding progress of groups and individualized treatment sessions and attendance in a timely manner. * Understand and implement oral and written reports/evaluations in conjunction with patients' overall treatment goals. * Observes/reports changes written or orally as, necessary, in patient’s behavior, attitude, or physical condition making necessary adjustments to therapeutic programs. * Establishes a therapeutic environment enabling patients to achieve their highest functional level. * Able to provide treatment to adults of all ages with mental and physical illnesses, injuries or handicaps in a therapeutic environment on all units on campus. * Assists with scheduling patients for group and individualized occupational therapy treatment sessions in cooperation with other disciplines. * Able to access and complete all additional requests, forms and arrangements necessary to assure that groups, treatments and departmental activities can be completed as scheduled. * Administers/supports programming on campus and in the community, including escorting/driving patients in state vehicles and purchasing/ordering supplies as necessary. * Promotes safety, cleanliness, and maintains work area ensuring equipment is in optimal working condition. * Maintains stock of needed supplies and modalities to ensure achievement of predetermined patient goals. * Performs screenings, maintains daily and monthly documentation, assist in evaluation process, gathers data, and administers structured tests in a timely manner. * Adheres to established standard for patient confidentiality. * Attends and participates in departmental, treatment, committee or other meetings as assigned. * Participates as a member of a team conducting/assisting in special building events, health fairs and grounds-wide activities as directed and scheduled. *Attends in-service and out-service training to enhance knowledge of occupational therapy techniques/modalities. * Assists in planning and providing education to staff, caregivers, peers, volunteers and patients. * Develops good working relationships with peers, supervisors, staff, patients, students, external providers and volunteers. * Accepts supervision and direction from occupational therapists in providing patient care and day-to-day tasks of running the department. * Supervised by Chief Physical Therapist. * Understand, interpret, and implement written and oral instructions, operating policy, procedures, and regulations. * Provide direction for OTA students/volunteers. * Submits time-off requests in a timely manner and according to departmental policy. * Follows call-off procedures. *Utilizes ESS for time management and inservices. * Demonstrates basic computer skills including using email and documentation. * Demonstrate competencies in application of techniques and maintain certification in Advance Mandt Training. *Maintain current CPR certification. * Employee in this position performs relative duties as required to meet the needs of patients, department, and institution. Employee expected to abide by the Hospital and Department of Health and Human Services rules, regulations, and guidelines in addition to above standards in performance of this job. |
