Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This employee assigned to Wernersville State Hospital, Maintenance Department, Electric Shop, under the supervision of the Facility Operations Supervisor. An employee in this position, preforms preventive maintenance, plans lay out, coordinates, and executes electrical installation, renovations, repair, and replacement projects and assignments. Work involves developing plans, performs calculations, and preparing estimates for electrical projects; developing the project layout, procedures, and sequence of work through the review and application of blueprints, schematics, engineering drawings, and building and electrical code; and coordinating, assigning, overseeing, and reviewing the work performed by lower-level employees during these projects. Work includes identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving electrical issues; and laying out the routing, placement, and arrangement of systems, circuits, controls, and equipment for electrical projects. Work may include planning, delivering, or coordinating electrical-related training for lower-level employees; and ensuring electrical-related contracted services are performed to satisfaction. Work is preformed independently and reviewed by a supervisor for quality and timeliness. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Determines time, equipment, labor and material resources, and work methods needed for a variety of specialized installation, repairs, and maintenance projects. Inspects structures to assess material and equipment needs, establishes the sequence of work, determines the arrangement of the electrical components, and plans work around physical obstructions. Locates, identifies, and marks placement of electrical components, fixtures, and wiring for full gut renovations and new construction projects. Makes technical decisions and provides direction to electricians, trainees, and other employees on issues identified on the work site and those that are not accounted for in blueprints and drawings. Assists with work and other employees and monitors the work of outside contractors on electrical projects and ensures the work product is tested, commissioned, and meets current electrical codes. Diagnoses and troubleshoots electrical issues with hardware components controlled by building automation system software. Works with building automation technicians, other trades employees, or outside vendor contractors to review performance and troubleshoot issues with equipment controlled by automation system software. Monitors, guides, and instructs employees engaged in resolving complex or unique repair and installation issues. Updates and maintains technical and archival drawings or records based on construction, installation, and repair alterations to ensure accuracy. Communicates clearly and concisely with supervisors and staff verbally or in writing; uses communication devices, i.e., telephone, two-way radio and in writing. Repair and maintain the electrical portions and mechanical repairs to equipment, such as but not limited to; refrigeration, air conditioning distribution systems, equipment, appliances, television systems, telephones, clinical and non-clinical medical equipment, maintains primary and secondary electrical distribution systems, electrical fixtures, fire alarm systems, voice communication systems, electrical generators, circulating pumps, laundry, dietary, and housekeeping equipment by use of standard tools, equipment, and testing devices. Install wiring and conduits and troubleshoot for, but not limited to, electrical circuits for lighting and power up to and including 480 volts 3 phase, phone, data, public address, and other systems. Assists and oversees the work performed by electrician trainees, ensuring skills and techniques are demonstrated for completion of training assignment. Identifies training needs of lower-level Electricians and other employees based on inspection of work and observation of work methods. Participates in the training or retraining of employees related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, fixtures, and components. Participates in the performance of other trades ' tasks and may perform lower-level Electrician duties consistent with operational and organizational requirements. Must be able to work from step ladders, extension ladders, lift equipment and, scaffolding as necessary. Must use all types of safety precautions when using any types of ladders, lift equipment, and scaffolding i.e., safety standards, and requirements for anchoring and personal protective equipment. Performs heavy manual work to maneuver, lift, and carry heavy equipment, materials, and tools. Wears an appropriate respirator and protective clothing for personal protection from confined space hazards and other environmental conditions, such as asbestos-containing materials (ACM) or lead-containing materials (LCM), while performing maintenance duties. Must document all work on, work orders and preventive maintenance forms. Must work in confined areas at extreme temperatures (hot and cold) and, under dusty conditions. Must work outdoors under extreme weather conditions. Attend all required training. Adhere to all Department of Human Services, Wernersville State Hospital’s and Department of Health’s rules, regulations, codes, procedures and policies. Employee responds and participates by providing assistance in all aspects of emergency snow/ice removal efforts, in order to maintain a safe environment of care for the patients and staff. A few examples include shoveling, de-icing, operating mechanical snow removal equipment, sweeping etc..., or whatever assistance is deemed appropriate by the Facility Maintenance Manager. And assignments as directed in order to provide an efficient and safe operational environment for the hospitals patients and staff. Department of Health, Environment of Care Standards. And all other duties as assigned. Obtains and maintains CPR certification and utilize skills as necessary. |
