This is a professional forestry position within the Clear Creek Forest District. The main purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties that involve developing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating programs designed to manage, protect, enhance, and conserving the forest resources within Clear Creek State Forest and in keeping with the State Forest Resource Management Plan. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. State Forest Resource Management: 1. Perform professional and technical duties under the supervision of the Assistant Forest District Manager in keeping the State Forest Resource Management Plan for the Clear Creek State Forest up to date according to Bureau policy. a. Assist the Assistant Forest District Manager in the selection of compartments to be examined each year. b. Complete the compartment examinations on assigned compartments. c. Maintain compartment folders by recording all completed projects, timber sales, changes found in compartment exams, wildlife habitat improvement projects, wetland projects, and reforestation projects. Update data in the Bureau’s data management software. 2. Perform professional and technical duties under the supervision of the Assistant Forest District Manager by conducting the State Forest Silvicultural programs at the District level according to Department and Bureau policy and procedures. a. Collect, record, and analyze data to determine the silvicultural treatment for forest stands. b. Plan, propose, select and mark timber, process data, and administer timber sales and permit sales. c. Meet the Annual District Harvest Allocation. d. Plan, propose, select and mark timber stand improvement (non-commercial) treatment areas. e. Plan, propose, and select planting sites and tree species for tree planting projects. f. Plan, propose, select sites, and conduct Wildlife Habitat Improvement projects utilizing District personnel and funds, or by coordination with private or public partners. g. Assist Clerical staff with issuing forest product permits for fuelwood, pulpwood, sawtimber, minerals, or miscellaneous products. h. Plan, propose, and select sites for prescribed burn treatment areas and assist with conducting prescribed burns. i. Plan, propose, select sites, and coordinate District deer fence install and removal, TSI, weeding, mowing, and herbicide contracts. j. As directed, conduct forest management, planning, timber sales, and timber sale administration on Bureau of State Parks land in accordance with BSP objectives, policy, and procedures. 3. Perform professional and technical duties under the supervision of the Assistant Forest District Manager by conducting the State Forest Minerals programs at the District level according to Department and Bureau policy and procedures. a. Maintain an up to date and accurate contact list of Oil & Gas cooperators working within Clear Creek State Forest. b. Plan and conduct annual Oil & Gas cooperator meetings. c. Prepare and administer Road Use Agreements and Maintenance Plans, and ATV/UTV Use approval letters associated with Oil & Gas cooperator activities. d. Conduct annual well inspections and work with DEP when concerns are discovered e. Maintain accurate District files and databases for Minerals program activities. Rural & Community Forestry: 1. As directed, assist with the District Rural & Community Forestry program. a. Provide professional forestry leadership, advice, and guidance to private and public forests landowner, federal, state, and local government agencies. b. Conduct or participate in District R&CF events. Forest Fire Protection: 1. As directed, assist with the District Forest Fire Protection program. a. Acquire and Maintain Pennsylvania Forest Fire Warden credentials. b. Respond to forest fire calls and assist in various fire suppression activities. c. Assist in maintenance of firefighting equipment. d. Assist with forest fire prevention activities. e. Act as incident commander until relieved by more experienced fire personnel. f. Order and direct aircraft used for forest fire suppression. g. Prepare and submit fire reports to Fire Forester. h. Maintain Search & Rescue Responder credentials. i. Respond to Search & Rescue incidents and assist in various SAR activities. Additional Duties: 1. Attend District, Bureau, and Department trainings and meetings. 4. Act as the District Pesticide Administrator. 7. Acquire and Maintain Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator License (Category 5). 8. Obtain and Maintain State Forest Officer credentials. 9. Maintain an office which includes an inventory of materials, completing required time and activity records, maintain current file system, meeting vehicle maintenance requirements, and performing necessary office duties, such as report typing, answering phone calls, etc. 10.
