Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Learn and trains to become a DCNR Ranger under the guidance of the Park Manager and other fully qualified DCNR Rangers. Employees must pass Pennsylvania State Police and FBI Criminal Background Checks. A record of conviction of a criminal offense for which more than one year in prison can be imposed as punishment is a basis for removal from the position. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. PATROLS – Patrols the parks of the Caledonia complex using motor vehicles, bicycle or foot patrol in order to observe visitor activities. Required to physically traverse various terrains that may be rough and uneven. Also required to work in varied and harsh weather conditions. Helps to ensure visitor safety and protection of the resource. Provides assistance to visitors as required. Inspects buildings, structures and facilities for security and safety. Ensures the posters, bulletin boards and signs are current and serviceable. Repairs and replaces park signs and posters by mounting signs on bulletin boards, sign backing and attaching to posts. Ensures assigned equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and neat condition. PUBLIC RELATIONS - Presents a professional Park Ranger image to the general public through uniform appearance, verbal skills, telephone skills, courtesies, a presence of self-confidence and knowledge of the parks, the environment and history, rules & regulations, laws, and local attractions. Provides information and assistance to park visitors. Staffs park offices and/or visitor centers. Registers park visitors using ASPIRA. LAW ENFORCEMENT – Assists full Law enforcement staff in learning the provisions of the law, especially as it pertains to State Parks, learns the aspects of making physical arrests and issuing citations, warrants and warnings consistent with State, Departmental and Bureau Directives, guidelines and regulations. Investigates complaints, accidents and crimes. Learns to determine action to take, prepares incident reports and co-operates with the Local and State Police and the Fish and Boat and Game Commissions. Learns how to file information with the District Magistrate and how to appear at hearings to present evidence, documentation, witnesses and examines; cross examines witnesses and testifies on behalf of the Commonwealth before the courts. EMERGENCIES - SAFETY – Once trained, the Trainee can assist in emergencies, search and rescue and accidents to ensure the safety and protection of the visitor and the resource. Provides first aid and CPR consistent with current certifications. Directs traffic. Calls for backup as needed. Helps to maintain and update the Emergency Plans for each park location at a minimal annually and as changes occur. REPORTS AND INSPECTIONS – Completes daily, monthly and annual reports/logs including incident, citations, arrests, accidents, equipment and visitor safety by compiling necessary data, making math calculations and entering information into computer-based forms or programs. Acts as custodian of lost and found articles, evidence, property log, etc. RADIOS - Learns to maintain key and radio equipment inventories and repairs. Includes assist in training staff on the proper use of two-way radio. Attend trainings as necessary to be conversant in radio systems ATTENDANCE - Follows instructions by lead worker responsible for collecting and reporting attendance data in approved computer-based systems. Also lead worker for monitoring condition of traffic counter and obtaining and recording traffic counts daily. MISCELLANEOUS Assists in marking and maintaining park boundaries. Operates various equipment including but not limited to automotive, trucks, two-way radio, PA system, GPS units, AED and various computer and office equipment. Also operates digital camera to document incidents, park activities, etc. Assists Lead Worker for First-Aid supplies. Inventories first aid kits and AEDs and insures that needed supplies are purchased in a timely manner to keep all first aid equipment compliant with State Park regulations. Routine work assignments are completed independently. Special and priority assignments are given by the Park Manager. All work is reviewed before being approved by Park Manager. In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years |

Learns to determine course of action to take to resolve issue and follows through. Calls for back up assistance as necessary. |
