Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The incumbent functions as a member of the Psychology staff and as a member of interdisciplinary teams. The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing direct psychological services to a portion of the civil psychiatric area of the hospital. The person in this position through education, training, and observation takes into consideration during interaction and programming the age/disability needs of the patient.

Description of Duties:

Specific duties include:

1. Contributes psychological information about patients to professional and non-professional staff by serving as a member of unit’s multi-disciplinary treatment team in order that appropriate treatment and discharge plans can be formulated. Provides psychological profiles of patients to treatment team by completing psychological evaluations as needed in order that treatment team decisions and goals for patients are objectively based.
2. Maintains current psychological assessments on identified patients by completing routine screening assessments within ten working days of admission and by reviewing the assessments at least annually, in order to provide the psychological data necessary prior to the development of each patient’s CITP.
3. Applies psychological principles of intervention in direct care treatment and rehabilitation of patients by scheduled individual and/or group work, by intervening in crisis situations, and by unscheduled counseling sessions in order that patient development is promoted.
4. Conducts individual therapy by meeting at least weekly on a one-to-one basis with those patients who are referred by the treatment team and who are deemed appropriate by the psychologist in order to improve the patient’s psychological and emotional functioning. A method describing the type of psychotherapy and its major focus will be included under the appropriate objective in the treatment plan. The frequency and content of goal notes documenting progress will conform with established policy.
5. Conducts group therapy sessions by meeting at least weekly with those patients who are referred by the treatment team and who are deemed appropriate by the psychologist in order to improve the patient’s psychological and emotional functioning. A method describing the type of psychotherapy and its major focus will be included under the appropriate objective in the treatment plan. The frequency and content of goal notes documenting progress will conform with established policy.
6. Conducts psychological evaluations by administering selected tests, when applicable, to identified patients who are referred by the treatment team and deemed appropriate in order to provide the information needed to answer the referral question. Evaluations will comply with the Policies and Procedures of the Psychology Department.
7. Participates in professional training by attending/conducting in service and out service training sessions relevant to job duties in order to develop and maintain high level of professional competency.
8. Discharges all assigned duties by adhering to all rules, regulations, procedures and guidelines provided by the department and hospital in order to ensure the best and most efficient patient care possible.
9. Functions actively as a member of the Psychology Department by attending supervisory sessions and monthly departmental meetings, and by serving on departmental and/or hospital-wide committees when requested in order to remain knowledgeable of department activities and to represent the department in a professional manner through the hospital.
10. Performs all duties in compliance with the CQI/RM standards/procedures designated in the program plans of the department and the hospital by familiarization with those standards/procedures in order to assure that all departmental services are provided within CQI/RM requirements.
11. When applicable, complies with requirements for documentation for Medicare B patients so that rendered services provided them can be billed for by supervisor.
12. Operates as treatment team coordinator for the ward to which he/she is assigned
13. Demonstrate competencies in application of techniques and maintain certification in Advance MANDT Training
14. Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned. Purpose and standards will be given at the time of each assignment.

Work assignment is determined by the needs of patients, by the recommendations of the treatment team, and by the Psychology Director. Work is reviewed by the Psychology Director with whom the employee meets as needed. In addition, the Psychology Director visits the ward areas and monitors assessments, progress notes, and treatment team meetings.
