Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Completes other work as assigned and may be required to work other than regular scheduled hours or overtime to meet the hospital's needs. Duties in all dental offices of Torrance State Hospital and other areas as needed. Duties are clinical and administrative. Skilled in the practice of dental hygiene and dental assisting in all aspects of general dentistry, including standard precautions and infection control protocols. Clinical care includes scaling, root planning, dental prophylaxis and fluoride treatments. Provides patient and staff education in oral health and hygiene and nutritional counseling. Assists the dentist during examination and treatment of patients and in related dental clinic duties. Provides services to patients ranging in age from 18 to 90+. Other specified duties include: Schedules all patient appointments including initial and annual assessments as well as all follow up dental treatment. Performs filing of dental reports, records and radiographs as needed. Dental Xray certified, exposes, processes and archives all radiographs. Maintains dental Xray processor, monitors and developer and fixer solutions, replenishing or replacing as needed. Records and maintains Quarterly x-ray repeat analysis log. Duplicates dental radiographs as needed. Maintains cleanliness in dental operatory, lab, and other assigned spaces. Performs minor laboratory procedures such as taking alginate impressions, pouring and trimming models, polishing dentures/partials and fabrication of bruxism appliances. Ensures all equipment is maintained in good working order. Performs, monitors and records weekly biologic testing of sterilizers, properly cleans and sterilizes all instruments. Orders supplies as needed, keeping adequate supplies in stock. Prepares all documents related to patient care including dental treatment notes, exam forms consultations and procedures logs. Documents in patient char dental hygiene services performed independently. Attends continuing education and in-service training as mandated by governing authority and established guidelines. BLS/CPR certified. BLS Instructor. Demonstrates competencies in application of techniques and maintains certification in MANDT training and Verbal Judo. |
