Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is semi-skilled manual work in the construction and maintenance of various public works projects. An employee in this class performs semi-skilled work alone or assists a skilled worker; or may function as lead worker for a small crew of manual workers performing routine tasks. Work involves the use of a large variety of construction and maintenance equipment and tools in many different tasks, which frequently require the application of skills acquired on the job. Employees receive oral/written instructions and work is inspected during the process and upon completion. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 1. Drives vehicles to transport personnel, residents, or materials. 2. Maintains the cleanliness of buildings, comfort facilities, pavilions, and outdoor recreational areas. 3. Performs landscaping duties on public grounds by seeding and mowing grass and by planting, pruning, and removing shrubs, branches, and trees. 4. Clears walkways and roadways of debris or snow. 5. Load and unload truck; move furniture and/or equipment, Dig ditches, clean culverts or manholes and tunnels. 6. Performs minor carpentry tasks such as assembling and repairing prefabricated picnic tables, signs, furniture, shelving, partitions and storage bins. 7. Paints or stains building walls, ceilings, signs, and gates by scraping and removing old finish and rolling or using brushes to apply paint or stain. 8. Makes minor electrical repairs such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, replacing switches, and adjusting electrical motors. 9. Clears blocked drains and repairs faucets and drinking fountains. 10. Performs minor roofing tasks by repairing shingles, soffits, flashing, and spouting. 11. Maintains vehicles and equipment by changing the oil, checking fluid levels, changing filters and checking tire pressures. 12. Tracks inventory items, including tools and equipment. 13. Builds simple forms for cement work using carpentry tools, mixes and places cement, finishes cement using mason tools, and lays stone and block walls. 14. Operates power and hand tools of the carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and other building trades in the performance of maintenance work. 15. Acts as a helper to skilled trades workers and/or Maintenance Repairman II’s and assists them in performance of their duties/completion of work orders. 16. Must be able to Erect scaffolds, climb ladders, run cement mixers, use wheelbarrows, and assist in demolition and removal of debris from job sites. 17. Performs other related duties by following the instructions of the supervisor or managers in order to provide for continuity of services. These other related duties may include, but are not limited to other trades work, laboring, housekeeping, grounds, and some equipment operation within your capabilities. |

Communicates with Foreman and / or Facility Maintenance Managers for input on decisions regarding non-routine, unusual situations / circumstances and material acquisition. |
