Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The employee occupying this position is responsible for the protection of life and property by patrolling the facility grounds, buildings, exit doors, and adjacent roadways. Employee protects and guards persons and property from fire, theft, trespass, vandalism, and other hazards. Employee regulates activities of residents, employees, visitors and the general public in accordance with prescribed rules and regulations. Employee operates all aspects of the agency's Communications Center. This position reports to a designated Security Officer 2 who in turn, reports to the Safety Manager. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Working time percentages are approximate and can change from day to day based on operational needs. 60% of working time is spent on these duties: Duties include operation of all aspects of the facility Communication Center, mail operations, switch board, surveillance equipment and all other related equipment; Regulating and controlling Center parking and traffic for the safety and security of all residents, employees, and visitors; Issuing warnings and citations in accordance with SMRC/DHS policies and procedures and PA Motor Vehicle Codes for violators of parking and traffic regulations; Maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe work environment in order to promote the well-being of self and co-workers; and Reporting all safety, security, environmental and other incidents to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner and in accordance with established policy and procedures. 30% of working time is spent on these duties: Employee is responsible for patrolling the building and grounds, on foot and by vehicle, of a state operated nursing home facility in order to protect and guard property and/or persons from fire, theft, trespass or other hazards. Employee will participate in training to acquire and/or develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to provide necessary services for Commonwealth facilities, grounds, and employees. Work may involve regulation of the activities of residents, vendors, guests, employees, and/or the general public, and may include performing limited police duties. Duties require the use of State owed vehicle to conduct patrols. Work is performed in accordance with prescribed rules and procedures. Supervision is received through daily instructions and inspections; the examination of time clock records; or through a review of training program participation and skill development. 10% of time is spent on these duties: Record keeping and documentation of occurrences and activities at the facility. |

Determines level of response, along with Executive Management, during fire and other safety emergencies. Performs investigations of safety/security incidents including vehicle accidents, and provides follow-up and recommendations for corrective action. |
