Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Directs and supervises Facilities Maintenance Manager I and the Maintenance staff in the implementation of all maintenance functions and operations. Determines staffing needs and priorities based on established facility and department goals and objectives. Directs and conducts inspections with the respective supervisors of all maintenance shops and work areas to ensure compliance with accrediting agency regulations and departmental standards for safety and for meeting the requirement of purchase of service contract provisions in these areas. Coordinates facility construction, project planning, materials needed, cost estimates of materials, and renovation projects with departmental staff, contracted staff, and Department of general services. Evaluates Maintenance departments needs for inventory, and budget. Assign performance standards and review with employees bi-annually/annually. Schedule any training for staff. Maintain a supervisory file for each employee. Take corrective action for any unsatisfactory employee performance reviews. Interview and recommend potential candidates for vacant positions in the maintenance department. Administers collective bargaining agreements; evaluates, and responds to employee complaints and grievances. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Exercise therapeutic care, custody, and control over inmates 2. Manage facility maintenance programs and operations through subordinate staff 3. Supervise, evaluate, and direct the work of subordinate staff 4. Reach, bend, stoop, pull, push, kneel, lift, climb, and grasp 5. Spend prolonged periods of time standing or walking 6. Spend prolonged periods of time working indoors as well as outdoors in all weather conditions 7. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing 8. Maintain regular and reliable attendance 9. Work mandatory overtime, with little or no advance notice, whether on or off duty at the time of notification 10. Use and maintain various equipment and tools used in facility maintenance 11. Operate basic office equipment 12. Properly wear all portions of assigned uniform 13. Establish and maintain effective working relationships 14. Visually observe inmates’ activities 15. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 16. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) 17. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 18. Travel as required |
