Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The incumbent independently performs a variety of skilled trades duties in the planning, estimating, ordering materials, constructing and finishing of a variety of buildings, drainage structures, or accessory structures using lumber, piping, concrete, or structural steel.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Draws rough plans, estimates quantities of construction materials, selects proper tools and equipment for assigned projects. Measures, cuts, places, materials for framing and finish carpentry, places reinforcing materials, pours and finishes concrete.

Performs or directs measuring, cutting, nailing, of lumber for a variety of construction projects, ordering, pouring and finishing concrete, building railings, stairs, partitions, ramps, shelves, inlets, or other similar structures.

Repairs or replaces lights, plumbing, valves, switches, broken glass, servicing clogged plumbing, replacing doors, erecting or removing partitions or similar interior alterations.

Cuts grass using lawn care equipment.

Removes snow from sidewalks and parking lots using basic snow removal equipment.
Assist garage mechanics with minor repair tasks when needed.

Cleans and stores winter plows and spreaders.

Washes trucks during non-bridge activities in the winter.



Performs lead work over helpers performing basic assignments.
The incumbent must lift and carry 50 pounds up to 20 yards; use hammers, screwdrivers, air compressors, saws, levels, trowels, hoes, rakes, and similar tools of the trade.

Maintains awareness of work area helping self and others to avoid risks and hazards; reports all personal injuries and equipment accidents immediately and gets proper treatment to minimize risk of further injury.

Follows proper attendance and call off procedures. Schedules non-emergency absences in advance; observes start/stop times, breaks, and mealtimes; works efficiently and effectively alone and with others; is available for overtime emergency responses; and minimizes nonproductive and down time for self and crew.

Recognizes the need for environmental practices and applies them in their daily activities.
Attends environmental training designated for their position.
Supports the efforts of other employees to meet these objectives.

Performs other related duties as required.

SAFETY:

Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss.
When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident.

Succession Planning:
Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.

Department Green Plan Policy:
Commit to following the Departments Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principals. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee's performance review.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) :
Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0 hour day.

Make decisions on what application rates should be used for winter assignments.
Notify Foreman of any safety concerns.
Do the circle of safety daily when operating.
Report all accidents to your supervisors.
Give supervisor feedback on any solutions you might have for problems.
Complete 614 daily when operating.
Complete dry run sheets, material sheets.

Essential Functions
