Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. GENERAL: Work involves patrolling the state forest and boundaries to provide public contact, ensure visitor safety, gain compliance with Forestry Rules and Regulations, and gain compliance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. PATROLS: Patrol forest district in a motor vehicle, ATV, snowmobile, boat, or on foot. Ensure visitor safety. Protect the forest resources. Aid visitors requiring help or information. Inspect district facilities for security and visitor safety. Ensure the posters, bulletin boards, and signs are current and serviceable. Ensure assigned equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean, orderly condition. PUBLIC RELATIONS: Present a professional DCNR Ranger image to the public through uniform appearance, verbal skills, courtesies, telephone skills, and self-confidence. Maintain a working knowledge of the forest environment, history, recreational opportunities, State Forest Rules and Regulations, and the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Provide information and assistance to visitors. Present programs to visitors, recreational user groups, and schools as assigned. LAW ENFORCEMENT: Enforce the provisions of the law using the lowest level of law enforcement necessary to obtain compliance. When necessary, make physical arrests, issue citations, and serve warrants consistent with Pennsylvania laws, Departmental Guidelines, and Bureau of Forestry Directives. Investigate complaints, accidents, summary offenses, and crimes. Determine action to take. Prepare incident reports. Co-operate with local police, Pennsylvania State Police, federal agencies, the Fish and Boat Commission, and the Game Commission. Prosecute cases, present evidence, present witnesses, examine and cross-examine witnesses, and testify on behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania before the courts. Maintain property log, lost and found articles, and various other reports. EMERGENCIES: Take charge of situations in emergencies and accidents to ensure the safety and protection of the visitor and the safety and protection of the resource. Assist with wildland fire suppression activities as assigned. Assist with search and rescue operations as assigned. Provide first aid and CPR consistent with current certifications. Direct traffic. REPORTS AND INSPECTIONS: Complete monthly logs, daily logs, and incident reports including the status and condition of camping areas, facilities, equipment, visitor safety, incidents, citations, arrests, and accidents. MISCELLANEOUS: Perform emergency maintenance to ensure visitor safety. Perform maintenance to recreational facilities and state forest land as assigned. Maintained issued equipment. Maintain assigned vehicles. Arrange for scheduled maintenance and repairs. Maintain assigned radio.
