Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 1. MAINTENANCE OF STATE FOREST LANDS AND FACILITIES. 1) Complies with all instructions received from the Forest Maintenance Supervisor. 2) Operates heavy equipment such as backhoe, dozer, grader, front-end loader with a bucket capacity of 3 yards or more, single vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 lbs. or more, truck and trailer combinations with a combined GVW of 26,001 lbs. or greater inclusive of a towed unit with a GVW of more than 10,000 lbs. 3) Performs manual work such as cleaning road culverts, mowing grass, painting, and all other duties assigned by the Forest Maintenance Supervisor. 4) Performs minor mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance to vehicles and equipment. 5) Completes safety checks and inspections of equipment prior to operation and maintains records of all heavy equipment operated. 6) Assists with a variety of district work projects including timber sales, deer fences, boundary line marking, tree planting, invasive plant control, prescribed burns, trail maintenance, wildlife habitat, and others tasks as assigned. 2. WILDFIRE PREVENTION AND PRESUPPRESSION 1) Assist district staff members in conducting fire prevention programs including the wearing of the Smokey Bear costume. 2) Locates, investigates, and reports on wildfire hazards in assigned area. 3) Maintains and repairs wildfire suppression equipment as assigned by supervisor. 4) Maintains other district equipment and facilities as assigned by supervisor. 5) Follows all district policies regarding fire season duties, schedules, and availability. 3. WILDFIRE SUPPRESSION 1) Responds rapidly to wildfires and provides efficient initial attack on the fire. 2) Delivers heavy equipment such as bull dozer and fire engine to the fire scene and operates the dozer as directed by the incident commander. 3) Assists, when necessary, the efforts of Forest Fire Wardens and crews on wildfire. 4) Operates, as necessary, wildfire fighting equipment and hand tools. 4. PUBLIC RELATIONS 1) Maintains a polite, cooperative attitude in dealing with the public. 2) Provides prompt answers to requests from the public or forwards the request to the proper staff person to handle. 3) Keeps informed of Bureau and District policies and projects in order to provide accurate information to the public. 5. SAFETY 1) Conducts all official duties in accord with Bureau safety policy and the Bureau Safety Code. 2) Wears appropriate safety equipment such as hardhat, chainsaw chaps, fall protection device when necessary. 3) Reports and/or repairs safety hazards, which may threaten district personnel or others. 4) Maintains assigned safety and first aid equipment to standard. 5) Maintains vehicle to meet state safety standards at all times. 6) Attends all safety meetings and training sessions as directed by the supervisor 6. TRAINING AND EMPLOYEE SELF DEVELOPMENT 1) Attends training as required by the Forest Maintenance Supervisor and Bureau policies. 2) Completes an annual self -development plan and takes steps to acquire additional skills or knowledge. 7. ADMINISTRATION 1) Prepares neat and accurate records and reports 2) Maintains an accurate record of daily activities and accomplishments and submits a bi-weekly report at the end of each pay period. 3) Provides advance notice of requests for leave 4) Prepares monthly vehicle reports for all assigned vehicles or equipment. 5) Attends all district staff meetings and work projects. 6) Assists with timely communication and exchange of information and paperwork with the district office. 7) Follows all district policies relating to time and attendance 8) Maintains constant contact with the Forest Maintenance Supervisor and the district office during work hours by way of portable and mobile radios.
