Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provide daily care of animals involved in PA's Performance Testing Programs. Feeding, bedding, cleaning pens and operation of essential equipment for task. Assist with collecting data for the various testing programs. Provide normal maintenance to facility and grounds and equipment. Provide specific animal housing services to parties renting facility. Interact with public using facility.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Feeds, waters, beds and otherwise cares for hogs, cattle, sheep & goats daily.

Cleans stables, pens and sheds regularly and disinfects them as necessary, including operation of tractors, skid steer loaders, forklift, PTO driven equipment, high pressure washing systems.

Certain areas of pens, especially hogs must be cleaned daily, including heavy lifting and machine washing.

Dispenses and records manually and digitally daily amounts of feed, hay and straw used per pen including operating multiple types of equipment and inputting data into a computer database.

Assists in providing daily Para veterinary aid to sick animals.

Observes and assists in evaluating health condition of hogs, cattle, sheep and goats including coordination of treatment of sick animals with station veterinarian.

Performs routine maintenance and minor repair work on farm machinery and equipment as needed.

Assists in the administration of regular medical prevention techniques, treating for internal and external parasites and administering vaccinations.

Assists in collection of performance data; weighing and measuring all animals frequently and participating with outside contractors to collect ultrasound data.

Assists in breeding soundness exam and measuring testicles.

Assists in monitoring animals for heat detection and animal breeding scheduling.

Assists in the management of animal breeding supplies specifically semen straws and liquid nitrogen holding tanks.

Prepares buildings for annual breeding animal sales.

Assists in preparing animals for sale: blood and T.B. Testing, washing, numbering and fitting of animals.

Assists in periodic slaughtering of hogs, beef, sheep & goats.

Performs minor electrical and plumbing work, carpentry work and constructs fences.

Participates in general repairs and painting of building, fences, barns and office.

Makes trips as needed to haul hay, straw and feed and to pick up parts and supplies as needed.

Performs Janitorial work.

Assists with snow & ice removal, mowing lawns, and pulling weeds in season and can operate the equipment for said duties.

Hauls livestock to sale barns and is capable of handling a livestock trailer.

Understands nutrient management plan for facility and works with outside contractors to follow nutrient management plan for facility.

Monitor and report inventory of feedstuffs available for tests both manually and digitally.

Performs routine tasks and duties assigned by director without supervision.

Assists with large scale projects related to the rental of the facility or use by outside groups.

Maintain public relations and answer questions, if possible, of the visitors in the director’s absence.

To perform any related work necessary for the operation of the Livestock Evaluation Center.

Essential Functions

 7. Operate cattle shutes and other cumbersome, midsized equipment and understand safety and normal function of all equipment necessary for multiple task.
 8. Be Free of hypersensitivity to agricultural plant, & animal material and chemical compounds (cleaning & disinfecting).
 9. Aid in physical restraint of domestic animals.
 10. Work for extended, continuous (up to 16 hour periods).
