Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provides semi-skilled trades work in a variety of areas such as construction; grounds and building maintenance; motorized equipment maintenance and repair; and assisting in mechanical work in the garage for a County Maintenance Office.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Employee performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks assisting mechanics with their duties.

Performs general yard maintenance such as keeping the yard clean and orderly; cutting grass and weeds; snow removal from sidewalks and parking area; maintaining the scrap tires area, etc.

Performs janitorial duties.

Assists mechanics with light mechanical repairs such as lube, oil change, repair lights, tire mounting, etc. on light and heavy-duty vehicles as needed.

Assist in loading and unloading vendor supplies and inspects items upon receipt for accuracy.

Assist in loading and unloading supplies for field personnel.

Operates a forklift for a variety of purposes.

Cleans, maintains, and stores tools.

Picks up equipment parts at various locations as needed.

Assist the storekeeper in the storeroom as needed.

Assists mechanics or welder when necessary with installation and removal of spreaders.

Washes trucks and equipment.

Maintains the wash bay in a presentable manner.

Performs other related duties as required.

-Immediately stop unsafe actions
-Engage in ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership

6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value:
-Immediately stop any unsafe actions.
-Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions.
-Continuously communicate the safety direction.
-Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety.
-Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving staff.
-Recognize safety daily.
-Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements.
-Learn and improve through After-Action Reviews (AAR’s)
-Enforce accountability.

Succession Planning: (Employees)

Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.

Department Green Plan Policy:
As part of PennDOT’s MS4 obligations including NPDES Permit compliance and stockpile good housekeeping, all Construction Inspection Employee, Manager & Supervisor and Maintenance Employee, Manager & Supervisor PD’s must include the following statement:

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) (Employees):

Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.50/8.0 hour day.

Independently perform yard maintenance tasks, wash bay tasks, light mechanical repairs/tire changes, etc. as assigned.

Prioritizes most routine tasks such as cleaning and storing tools, cutting grass, and washing truck and equipment.

Determines the steps to take during the operations of heavy equipment.

Makes visual observations, manual adjustments, reports findings in both written and oral format.

Essential Functions
: Provide a list of essential functions for this position. Example: Transports boxes weighing up to 60 pounds.
 
 1. Interpret/apply basic mechanical/trades skills. Operate a vehicle to travel to/from field locations, etc.
 2. Work /around plants, insects, fumes, & toxins/withstand extended periods of standing & heavy exertion
 3. Perform physically arduous tasks/lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds
 4. Work in outdoors/hazardous/temperature variant environments.
 5. Perform all aspects of building/ground maintenance. React to hazard warnings, sounds, etc.
 6. Perform repetitive motions such as grasping, twisting, etc. Use hand tools. Withstand constant vibrations of equipment.
 7. Follow oral and written instructions. Maintain business records of supplies, miscellaneous inventory.
 8. Wear personal protective gear. Follow all safety policies & procedures.
 9. Work assigned hours/work possible extended hours/travel to/from various locations.
 10. Use computer/software applications. Read/write/respond clearly.
