Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The primary duties of the employee assigned to this position are completing plumbing projects in the plumbing shop. The position also requires the employee to perform maintenance and repair work in various trades in multiple areas of the facility as needed.
This is skilled work at the journeyman level in several trades.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Planned working time percentages are approximate and can change on a daily basis due to operational needs.

80% of working time:
Performs work commensurate with trade specialties (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, air conditioning and refrigeration work) as required.
Installs, maintains and repairs a variety of equipment and machines inside and on the grounds of the facility.
Repairs and paints doors, furniture, and interior and exterior of buildings, completing all aspects of painting projects: mixing paints, sanding/preparing wood and metal surfaces, painting by brush, spray, or roller, and care and maintenance of painting equipment.
Drives a truck to transport people, equipment and supplies.
Maintains grounds of the facility through lawn care and snow removal.
Completes plumbing tasks such as: cutting/threading pipe; installing bathroom and kitchen fixtures, heating, refrigeration, water, sewage, or gas systems.
Completes electrical tasks such as: measuring, cutting, bending, threading, assembling, and installing electrical conduit, splicing and soldering wire, installing control and distribution equipment, i.e. switches, relays, circuit breaker panels, etc.
Completes carpentry/construction tasks such as, remodeling and rough carpentry such as cutting, placing, and nailing framing members, sub-floors, sheathing, etc.; and in finish carpentry such as cutting and hanging doors and installing windows, fitting door and window trim, stair risers, treads and stringers, cabinets, etc.
HVAC/Refrigeration tasks include basic inspection and repair of air conditioners and refrigeration units: tightening and replacing belts and pulleys; checking for leaks; cleaning and replacing electrical elements; adding and replacing oil in compressors and motors; similar tasks to ensure the continued operation and efficiency of equipment and prevention of breakdowns.

20% of working time:
Maintaining preventive maintenance records and schedules.

Makes independent decisions of a routine and recurring nature based upon established SMRC policies and guidelines, training, job knowledge and competency.

Communicates with Facility Maintenance Supervisors/Managers for input on decisions regarding non-routine, unusual situations/circumstances and material acquisition.
