Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. This position supports a comprehensive interfaith religious services program by offering guidance, conducting services, and assisting individuals from all faith backgrounds. It requires strong communication skills, steady leadership, and sensitivity to diverse needs. As a Chaplain, you will perform the following duties: •Religious Services: Plan and lead faith specific gatherings, administer sacraments and rites, and arrange accommodations for inmates of other faiths •Spiritual Counseling: Provide spiritual, grief, and special counseling and visit inmates in general population, specialized units, and community hospitals. •Program Support: Facilitate religious discussion groups, screen religious materials, and oversee activities for inmates with special needs. •Interfaith Guidance: Participate in committees, evaluate accommodation requests, and attend community interfaith events to promote facility religious programs •Volunteer Coordination: Assist with recruiting, training, and orienting volunteers, visitors, and interns involved with the Religious Services Department •Recordkeeping Duties: Document program activities, prepare required reports, and respond to requests for information in a timely manner ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1.Exercise therapeutic care, custody, and control over inmates 2.Effectively communicate verbally and in writing 3.Review and interpret information 4.Operate basic office equipment 5.Maintain regular and reliable attendance 6.Establish and maintain effective working relationships 7.Maintain official sanction by the appropriate faith group to practice as a religious leader 8.Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 9.Work overtime as required 10.Travel as required 11.Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 12.Visually observe inmates’ activities 13.Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) |

Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature. Routine work assignments are managed independently while special assignments are discussed with the Chaplaincy Program Director (CPD) prior to implementation. Work is assigned and reviewed by the CPD on a regular basis. This position seeks advice and direction from the CPD in regards to unique and/or critical situations. |

All candidates are required, at the time of application, to provide documentation from an officially sanctioned faith group dated within one year of the application date stating they are officially sanctioned or authorized to conduct worship/sacred services, and specifying which sacraments, rites, ceremonies, or rituals they are authorized to perform as a religious leader. 2. All employees in the Department of Corrections must complete the Correctional Chaplains Training Course within six months of hire. 3. All employees in the Department of Corrections must maintain their credentials with an officially sanctioned faith group on an annual basis for the duration of employment.
