Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is a skilled position operating heavy-duty trucks and equipment in the construction, maintenance and repair of state forest roads, trails, boundaries and facilities.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Operates CDL “A” rated trucks and combinations, snow groomers and heavy equipment including graders, track loaders, bulldozers and backhoes during the construction, maintenance and repair of state forest roads, trails and facilities.
Performs manual tasks including the operation of hand tools and use of portable power tools.
Must perform routine service, preventative and some repair maintenance on assigned equipment.
Must perform required record keeping including pre-trip safety inspections on assigned equipment and driver’s log when required.
Employee may be required to work overtime or on weekends as emergencies and situations require.
Responds to fire calls and fights fires when needed.
Approximately 65% of the employees time will be spent on equipment operations, 20% on maintenance,5% on training and 10% on miscellaneous duties.

Makes routine field decisions as required to continue work and complete assigned tasks as instructed by the Forest Maintenance Supervisor. At times the employee may be designated as a lead worker for a small group of workers to complete a specific work assignment.
