Position Purpose:

Employee is responsible for preparing and serving food items as well as performing cleaning duties in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and in compliance with applicable health and sanitation regulations.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Arrive to work on time, ready to work. Follow the Dietary Department Sanitation Code, all aspects.
Reference and perform assignments as noted on the Daily Assignment Sheet. Use portioning sheets and labels. Apportion, prepare and serve food in a safe and sanitary manner, following all health and safety regulations. Take pride in products prepared and served, striving to maintain nutritional quality and an appealing presentation. Prepare beverages to proper dilution. Pour beverages with accuracy. Thicken liquids to desired consistencies. Serve meals with care. Acknowledge and adhere to individuals’ allergy/ intolerance and special needs. Demonstrate proper care and use of all equipment/ machines/ utensils/ tools. Accurately assemble and properly identify/ label/date all items. Control and limit waste. Transfer food, supplies and equipment between storage, work areas, serving and cleaning areas in an appropriate manner. Use utensil bin. Store food in designated areas, being sure to cover, label and date. Re-stock areas (food, paper and cleaning supplies). Rotate stock. Fill out required forms. Keep work areas, including portioning area, tray line, cafeteria line, cafeteria, coolers, freezers and Ingredient Room, organized, clean and safe. Clean and sanitize areas properly and thoroughly. Sweep before mopping. Collect, lift, push and place garbage in dumpster. Break down cardboard for recycling. Maintain high standard of cleanliness, routine and special cleaning. Empty trays. Follow equipment/ machine/ garbage disposal operating guidelines. Prepare nourishments, supplements, bag lunches and food for special events. Assist in set-up and serving at special events, when assigned. Assist cooks, if assigned. Focus on tasks. Be prepared for assignments. Read menu ahead of serving. Complete duties within expected time frames. Keep noise to a reasonable level. Avoid chatter when using equipment/ machines and when on tray and cafeteria lines. Find things to do in slack times. Adhere to break schedules and departure times. Treat individuals and all others with courtesy and respect. Communicate and work together as a team. Accept direction. Accept constructive criticism. Attend and maintain respectful behavior at trainings and meetings. Report issues and communicate ideas to Supervisors and Management. Follow established safety and security policies. Maintain confidentiality. Follow chain-of-command. Adhere to DHS HR and IT Policies. Perform additional/ other duties as assigned. Work holidays, as assigned. Work mandated OT, as required.

All duties are completed under the close guidance and supervision of the Food Service Supervisor.
