Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is responsible for monitoring and supporting the daily operations of a Library at an assigned PA State Correctional Institution (SCI).

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

1. Monitors and maintains orderly and efficient library operations. Ensures all inmate workers and patrons adhere to agency, facility, and library policies and assists them in locating, acquiring, and using library resources such as recreational, legal, and reentry materials.
2. Oversees inmate workers and Inmate Legal Reference Aides. Monitors and provides guidance to inmate workers. Assists in the completion of inmate worker attendance and progress reports. Assists the Librarian with training, scheduling, hiring, and termination of inmate workers.
3. Oversees general, law library, and housing unit services. Assists with daily call-outs for inmates to attend the library and oversees accountability for inmates who are authorized to be in the library. Establishes a routine in servicing housing units to deliver and inventory library materials.
4. Assists with the circulation of library materials. Processes interlibrary loan requests and ensures book requests are not on the denied publication list. Assists patrons with copy requests as needed.
5. Responsible for daily communications. Answers questions from inmate population and professional staff.
6. Supports the library collection. Recommends the purchase of new books and periodicals. Has a working knowledge of the use of library research materials.
7. Acquires and maintains an active notary commission. Provides notary services to inmates upon request.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

8. Maintain regular and reliable attendance
9. Establish and maintain effective working relationships
10. Visually observe inmates’ activities
11. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels
12. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet)
13. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing
14. Work overtime in compliance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
15. Travel as required

Independently monitors the daily operations of the library.

Reviews situations and resolves according to policy and procedure and addresses any concerns with the Corrections Librarian if unable to solve independently.
