Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The employee assigned to this classification performs skilled journeyman level work in the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of machinery, buildings, utilities and equipment. Work involves knowledge and proficiency in several trades, such as but not limited to Carpentry, Masonry, Painting, Plumbing, HVAC and Electric in order to ensure the continued efficient operation at the Ebensburg Center. This position repairs, assembles and fabricates adaptive equipment to meet the needs of the individuals of Ebensburg Center. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the supervisor assigned and the Facility operations Supervisor or the Facility Operations Manager 2 and Facility Operations Manager 4 depending on the job assignment. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Examples of job duties include, but are not limited to: * Repairs doors, door frames and furniture; * Fabricates and installs temporary partitions; * Builds forms; * Operates and maintains shop tools, such as lathes, sanders, jointer, various types of saws, planer and related power and hand tools to perform all assigned carpentry duties; * Maintains and repairs floors, windows, roofs, locks, screens, furniture, spouting, lays tile, brick, terra cotta, cinder blocks, and stone to construct floors, walls, partitions, arches, chimneys, and other structures; * Pours and finishes concrete walks, floors, steps, walls, and other structures; * Operates pneumatic and manual tools to break plaster, tile, stone and concrete; * Water proofs basement walls and wooden and masonry structures by following procedures of a work order system established by the Maintenance Department in order to extend the life of the buildings and maintain safety standards set by the State Agency; * Performs preventive maintenance on doors, locks, windows, screens, floors, roofs, spouting, and other related equipment by an established preventive maintenance work order system, monitored by the Carpenter Foreman in order to meet all Federal and State codes and to prevent major breakdowns; * Installs new doors, windows, floors, roofs, carpeting, locks, screens, and many other types of new construction by an established new construction work order system supervised by the Carpenter Foreman in order to add additional space for program areas and maintain a good environment for the individuals; * Maintains and repairs wooden and metal furniture, designs and constructs program equipment and works with Environmental Enrichment Program to maintain other related equipment by a work order system established by the Maintenance Department in order to extend the life of the Center’s equipment and maintain attractiveness; * Perform bed assessments that meet FDA, and Ebensburg Center Policy. * Paints and decorates interiors and exteriors of buildings; * Prepares and paints a variety of surfaces such as: Metal, wood, masonry and plaster; * Applies paint to interior and exterior of buildings using an airless paint sprayer, brushes and rollers; * Removes old paint with scrappers, sandpaper, and flame torch and paint removers. Cleans brushes, rollers and airless paint sprayer and other painting equipment; * Mix and match paints and stains using the proper proportion of pigment and bases. Skilled in mixing paints and matching and blending colors in the application of paints and other finishes with a brush, roller and paint sprayer; * Skilled in the care of brushes, spray guns and other tools of the painting trade; * Caulks and patches walls, cracks and openings around doorframes and windows before painting surface. Removes putty or glazing compound and replace broken sashes when necessary; * Makes minor repairs to all equipment; * Repairs and installs wallpaper, wal-tex, and other types of wall coverings; * Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety practices of the painting trade. Rigs and erects scaffolding and when necessary performs hazardous duties from scaffolds and ladders. Employee has the ability to work as a lead worker when performing painting and wallpapering projects; * Paints and stencils all types of signs, Receives assignments orally or by direction of a written Maintenance Work Order; * Maintains and repairs gas fired boilers, steam heat boilers, gas fired hot water systems, water lines, heating lines, sewage and drainage lines, sinks, tubs, faucets, drains, vents, water heaters, dietary equipment and all other equipment that pertains to HVAC & plumbing trade by direction of a written or oral work order assigned by the Plumbing Foreman in order to maintain the equipment in a safe and proper operation condition; * Employee performs Preventive Maintenance on a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment by cleaning, greasing, oiling, painting, and making adjustments as indicated on the Preventive Maintenance Program. Such equipment would be gas fired boilers, steam heat boilers, gas fired hot water systems, refrigeration equipment, electrical motors, fans, pumps, heating equipment, washers, dryers, dental equipment and other mechanical and electrical equipment; * Troubleshoots equipment by observing, testing equipment for malfunctions or analysis in operation. Such equipment would be refrigeration, air-conditioning, electrical air compressing equipment, dietary, dental and therapy equipment, building automation heating control equipment, hot water valves and mixing devices, piping and hot water heating pumps, gas fired boilers, steam heat boilers, gas fired hot water systems; * Installs electrical circuits, wall plugs, lighting fixtures, changes light bulbs and repairs and reconditions fans and motors; * Makes repairs, adjustments or replaces laundry washing machines, dryers and pressing machines as well as other related equipment. Schedules and performs preventive maintenance on these and other equipment; * Makes repairs to roofs and installs flashing, gutter and downspouts; * Performs lead work over helpers performing basic tasks; * Welds and brazes metals by use of arc, MIG, TIG and acetylene welders. Erects steel for construction or other projects; * Performs repairs on bridge structures, such as building forms, finishing concrete, welding steel components and operating construction equipment as required; * Cuts grass using non-commercial lawn equipment, trims high grass in hard to reach areas, applies herbicides and fertilizers; * Maintains the lawns and grounds by raking leaves, removing limbs, debris and refuse form grounds, seeding, repairing and fertilizing lawns, planting shrubs, trees and flowers, trimming trees and shrubs and weeding around shrubs and plants to make the grounds attractive and to provide safe environment for individuals and staff; * Maintains the roads, walkways, parking lots and curbing during winter months by using non-commercial equipment or shoveling snow, salting walks, erecting snow fence, filling salt barrels, cleaning snow covered fire plugs, ramps and exit ways to maintain safety for individuals and staff; * Maintains the roads, parking lots and walkways during the summer months by spreading hot asphalt paving, sweeping, cleaning and repairing in order to maintain a safe access system on the Center’s grounds; * Moves and stores capital equipment and records information to maintain an up-to-date record of capital equipment; * Picks up and delivers all types of personal belongings and adaptive equip. for individuals; * Assists tradesmen with various construction and repair work; * Assembles, disassembles or cleans various types of new and used beds, furniture and equipment; * Sweeps and cleans shops, stairwells and basements; * Cleans heating fin tubes and convectors; * Performs general laboring tasks such as: moving furniture and equipment, clean equipment, repairing and erecting fence & other manual types of laboring duties in support of the overall goals of the Maintenance & Transportation Department; * Employee has a thorough knowledge of equipment, tools and methods he/she uses to perform his/her daily work; * Performs all other related work as required; * must possess a valid PA drivers license; * Employee will prepare estimates of project costs as assigned. Completes reporting functions as needed for assigned projects. Reads and understands blueprints and maintenance schematics. * Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and constructive working relationships with all Ebensburg Center staff and individuals. |
