Position Purpose:

To ensure the integrity of racing, Livestock Worker I is assigned to collect urine and assist in taking blood samples for testing purposes. Schedule is vendor controlled and subject to change. Current schedule is 1pm to 6pm Saturday, Monday and Tuesday and 5pm to 10pm on Sunday.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

1. Collect urine from assigned horses.
2. Pick up sample kit from State Vet's office, verify sample numbers on urine cup,
security seals and witness receipt.
3. Notify State Vet urine has been collected and assist Vet in bleeding horse.
4. The horse must be under the observation of the LW at all times.
5. Identify the horse by reading the tattoo number.
6. Return sample, split and wrap urine and blood samples according to established
guidelines.
7. Clean work area.
8. Bed stalls.
9. Other work deemed necessary or appropriate by supervisor.

LW determines if sufficient amount of urine has been collected to be analyzed. Decision regarding horses receiving medication and how long the LW will stay in the stall will be determined by the State Vet.
