The job duties of the UC Tax Technician in the Status Determinations Unit, Registration and Document Management in the Office of Unemployment Compensation Tax Services (UCTS), are primarily to determine compliance with the taxing provisions of the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Law (Law) regarding employers located in and out of Pennsylvania |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 35% - The technician reviews registration documents received from other departments within OUCTS and directly from employers for completeness and accuracy with specific attention paid to mandatory determinations and predecessor/successor relationships. The technician will adjust information submitted and define the actions to be taken in order to process the registration completely. 35% - The technician is required to reconcile alleged discrepancies between wages reported by an employer and claimant’s statements of wages earned. Knowledge of various exclusions, coverage and definitions of ‘wages’ as stated in the Unemployment Compensation Law. These differences become evident when an employee is separated from their employment and become a claimant for Unemployment Compensation benefits. 20% - The technician will complete various tasks regarding compliance of PA UC Law as it relates to Bulk Sale, Civil Assessment for missing/incomplete registration and employer/third party administrator inquiries about PA UC liability. The technician will need to communicate effectively through written correspondence as well as verbal communication by telephone. 5% - Prepare weekly report indicating case load of wage investigations and referee hearings 5% - Performs other related duties as required This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment and a reinvestigation within five years of the previous background investigation with continued employment. As an employee of a state agency who works with FTI, you are responsible for protecting this critical information. |
