Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Custodial Worker I performs duties related to the sanitation and infection control of the hospital. The objectives include reduction of microorganisms to provide a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, and are accomplished using supplies, equipment, and procedures provided by the Department of Human Services, CSSH, Environmental Services, and Infection Control manuals. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Required to ensure that all areas are within the standards set forth by the hospital and housekeeping department. Be concerned with safety, and ensures that all housekeeping procedures are performed in a safe manner. This includes use and storage of chemicals and following manufacturers’ directions. Wear gloves when necessary and insure that others do likewise. Immediately report maintenance problems or potentially hazardous conditions to a supervisor. Perform a variety of tasks in connection with the sanitation and infection control of the hospital. Among these are wash floors and wax when needed, dust furniture and fixtures, clean restrooms, transport supplies and equipment, PM and repair equipment, clean dining rooms, snow removal and treatment near entrances, laundry and linen pick-up and delivery, transport furniture, and disseminate information to other Custodial Workers I, Custodial Workers II, Supervisors, and Managers. Demonstrate the proper use and care of housekeeping equipment. Employee is required to follow and convey oral and written instructions in the use of cleaning materials for different surfaces Must be able to work effectively and coordinate work activities, as well as possess the physical strength necessary to lift or move furniture, equipment and supplies as required by the job. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Determine what areas are dirty and what has to be cleaned. Recognize appropriate cleaning chemicals. Recognize appropriate linen carts for their wards. Navigate through all areas of responsibility. Change light bulbs as required. Clean light fixtures. Remove and hang drapes and/or curtains. Move from one floor of a building to another in order to carry out required duties. Move through all areas of responsibility. Transport needed cleaning supplies to areas. Use floor care equipment. Empty water buckets and other floor care equipment. Clean and reach areas below waist level. Fill water buckets. Shovel snow from entranceways. Mop floors in assigned areas as required by work schedule. Pick up debris from floors. Move linen carts to appropriate areas. Use floor care equipment that requires the operator to move it to perform its function. Move supplies on flat carts from one area to another. Move furniture from one area to another. Place supplies on shelves. Store linen on shelves. Empty wastewater tanks of floor care equipment. Empty water buckets. Receive instructions. Receive pages via public address system and respond. Comprehend written communications, policies and procedures, product safety data sheets (MSDS), memos, equipment operation manuals, etc. Give information to supervisor. Give reports regarding any problems to supervisor. Communicate via telephone. Work an additional shift on rare occasions. Work additional days beyond normal 5-day work schedule. Work additional hours beyond normal shift.Obtains and maintains Crisis response / intervention certification through vendor approved by the Commonwealth |
