Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The position’s primary duty is to provide heavy equipment and heavy truck operation in conducting the maintenance, repair, and construction of State Forest roads and facilities in the areas of Rothrock State Forest as assigned by the Assistant Forest Manager and under the supervision of the Forest Maintenance Supervisor. Employee operates such vehicles as backhoes, dozers, crawler loaders, road graders, rollers, farm tractors, heavy trucks over 26,001 lbs and combinations over 10,001 lbs and other equipment as the need arises. Operator conducts required daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance on District heavy equipment. Employee is also responsible for the maintenance, repair, and construction of State Forest roads, facilities and equipment in the Rothrock State Forest. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Operation of Equipment: 1. Primary operator of road grader on various road maintenance projects. 2. Operate other equipment as directed including backhoe, tracked loader, dozer, tractor with attachments, dump trucks, tag along trailers, vibratory roller, skid loader, forklift, pickups, etc. 3. Responsible for daily and periodic preventive maintenance of grader and any other equipment when operating same. Perform minor repairs in field when necessary. 4. Assist mechanic in making major repairs to grader and any other equipment when necessary. 5. Operate a chainsaw, string trimmer, pole saw or brush saw as needed. 6. Maintain various maintenance records and reports on assigned equipment. Maintenance of State Forest Facilities: 1. Repair and maintain State forest roads, culverts, and bridges. 2. Maintain state forest boundary lines. 3. Assist with maintenance of district deer fences 4. Assist with the maintenance and repair of district buildings and storage structures. 5.Help to maintain neat, clean workshop at division headquarters. 6. Maintain forest recreational trails by periodically repainting blazes, removing windfalls and deadfalls with a chainsaw, constructing and maintaining water diversion controls, and erecting and maintaining signs 7. Assist in the maintenance of carved letter road and trail signs including sanding, staining and lettering. 8. Assist in the maintenance of snowmobile roads, trails, signs and parking areas. 9. Assist in the maintenance of state forest picnic areas and related facilities. 10. Assist in the maintenance of overlooks and vistas. 11. Attend training meetings as required. Fire Protection 1. Suppression activities on wildland fires as required, including the operation of heavy equipment; hauling men, supplies and equipment; work on fire line and mop-up work. 2. Assist in wildland fire prevention and pre-suppression programs and activities. 3. Operation, repair and maintenance of fire fighting equipment. 4. Assist as directed in prescribed fire activities |

Work standards, and work group goals and objectives are provided annually by the Forest Maintenance Supervisor and the Forest Assistant Manager. Work is reviewed on a continuing basis. Employee occasionally functions as a work leader. |
