Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

To provide the best possible customer service to the general public and to maintain the Forest District’s facilities and infrastructure by utilizing job skills and job knowledge.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Maintenance and Repair

1. Repair doors, door frames, and furniture; fabricates and installs temporary partitions.
2. Prepare and paint interior and exterior of buildings.
3. Apply herbicide to eliminate weed competition from tree seedlings and maintain application records as directed by foresters, Forest Maintenance Supervisor,(FMS) and/or Assistant District Forester,(ADF).
4. Plant tree seedlings or seed and assist program coordination with volunteers as directed by foresters, FMS or ADF.
5. Install, maintain and or remove tree shelters as directed by foresters, FMS, or ADF.
6. Plant wildlife shrubs as directed by foresters, FMS, or ADF.
7. Lime, seed, and fertilize wildlife openings; assist in the coordination of these projects as directed by foresters, FMS, or ADF.
8. Performs masonry work in connection with buildings, bridges, foundations, walks, and walls.
9. Installs and maintains plumbing fixtures; measures, cuts, threads, and installs pipe for steam lines and water lines.
10. Installs electric circuits, wall plugs, and lighting fixtures.
11. Make Repairs to roofs and installs flashing and spouts.
12. Welds and brazes metals by use of arc and acetylene welders; and erects steel for construction.
13. Performs repairs to bridge and Dam structures such as building forms, finishing concrete, welding steel components, and operating construction equipment when needed.
14. Cuts grass using lawn care equipment.
15. Removes snow from sidewalks and parking lots using basic snow removal equipment.
16. Make repairs to deer fencing.
17. Assists the district mechanic with repairs to Forest District vehicles and equipment at direction of FMS and/or ADF.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

1. Operates and maintains pick-up trucks with snow removal and forest fire equipment.
2. Operates and maintains ATV’s, UTV’s, and snowmobiles, and snow groomer.
3. Operates and maintains herbicide and pesticide spray equipment used in forest management activities.
4. Occasionally operates construction equipment such as backhoes or loaders in conjunction with a construction/maintenance project.
5. Operates and maintains hand tools and powertools used to accomplish assigned duties.

Forest Fire Protection

1. Patrol for and suppress wildfires.
2. Investigate wildfire causes and complete accurate and timely reports.
3. Assist in fire prevention activities.
4. Serve as fire tower lookout when needed.
5. Attend wildfire behavior and other fire training courses when made available.
6. Assist other agencies in wildfire suppression activities as needed.
7. Assist with prescribed fire and follow the standards of the Bureau of Forestry and the Pennsylvania Prescribed Fire Council.
8. Serve as a Pennsylvania Forest Fire Warden.

General Forest District Operations

1. Assist with Forest District training programs as needed.
2. Assist with purchasing tools, equipment, or materials in accordance with DCNR purchasing guidelines.
3. Assist with Search and Rescue Operations.
4. Function as lead worker when needed and assigned by FMS.

Essential Functions

 1. Operates ATV, UTV, truck, truck with snowplow, groomer and snowmobile
 2. Perform strenuous outdoor work and negotiate uneven rough terrain
 3. Maintain valid Pennsylvania Driver's License
 4. Communicate effectively and clearly with coworkers and the public
 5. Work cooperatively with coworkers as a team to accomplish common work goals
 6. Read, interpret, and follow various policies and procedures so that operations are carried out according to guidelines
 7. Carry Indian tank, use suppression equipment and withstand extended periods of strenuous activity, intense heat and smoke
 8. Perform routine maintenance of Forest District Facilities
 9. Lift and move heavy objects and work under adverse weather conditions
 10. Use power tools and hand tools safely
