Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Responsible for all phases of environmental education, environmental interpretation, cultural and historical interpretation, and outdoor recreation programs for park visitors at Yellow Creek State Park. Work includes program planning, preparation, implementation, presentation, and evaluation.

Serves as volunteer coordinator for Yellow Creek State Park.

This position performs duties that are routinely executed seven days a week and will be routinely scheduled to work weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays to meet the needs of park operations.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Develops original lesson plans and conducts environmental interpretive programs by leading guided walks or other recreation activities, audio-visual presentations, tours, campfire programs, and field learning activities using, but not limited to, state developed themes focusing on natural history, historic and cultural events, and environmental issues for a variety of audiences (school students, youth groups, senior citizens, individuals with physical, mental, or emotional challenges, etc.) Programs may occur at the park or at off-site locations.

Develops and implements special environmental and interpretive programs which include, but are not limited to, Penn's Explorers, Cavity-Nesting Trail Program, and Earth Day. Work includes writing and disseminating promotional letters and materials to prospective participants and writing and establishing a marketing scheme for the effective implementation of all programs.

Establishes and maintains close liaison with park staff and volunteers, local/state/federal conservation groups, schools, scouts and other civic organizations, and the public concerning environmental learning programs.

Plans, coordinates, implements, and conducts teacher workshops with local ARIN Intermediate Unit #28 using a variety of state and national curriculum.

Schedules programs and prepares lesson plans using the state park approved format and submits other required reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis or as due.

Prepares professional correspondence, program schedules, reports, articles, news releases, social media posts, brochures, e-mails, etc. to disseminate information to schools and the public.

Maintains and inventories park’s environmental education/interpretation/recreation materials, equipment, and library. Oversees use of equipment, and makes recommendations for repair, servicing, replacement, and purchase on new equipment to the Park Manager.

Maintains Environmental Learning Classroom building, assists in the development of and maintains interior displays, schedules hours of operation and public programs, and coordinates the usage of large meeting room.

Works with PHEAA students, practicum students, and interns assigned to the park environmental education program. Assists the park manager with the assignment and completion of tasks, reviews work, checks progress status, monitors, and recommends evaluations required under this program.

Develops and presents impromptu interpretive activities in the park when public usage is high.

Assists with planning, coordination and facilitation of on-site and off-site events and festivals.

Assists with the research, planning and development of non-personal interpretive media, such as informational brochures and fact sheets, and interpretive exhibits.

Provides visitor services and assistance.

Serves as coordinator for the park’s Conservation Volunteer program. Works with other park staff to recruit volunteers, determine projects to maintain the resources of the park, coordinate assignment of tasks, monitor progress, communicate needs, provide training opportunities and recognition for park volunteers, and complete required reporting.

Serves as liaison with Friends of the Parks and Friends of Yellow Creek volunteer groups, acting as an advisor for planned programs and activities.

Assists with natural and cultural resource management work as directed.

Required to attend various trainings as directed. May require overnight travel.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Work is reviewed by the Park Manager upon completion or during progress for adherence to policies and procedures and completeness. Interprets state park objectives for environmental education and develops lesson plans to meet those goals.

Essential Functions

 1. Organize and conduct environmental education, interpretation, summer youth, outdoor recreation programs to varied audiences.
 2. Research, develop, and implement program lesson plans

 4. Work comfortably as part of a team and independently, sometimes alone in remote locations.
 5. Negotiate varying terrain and weather conditions to complete job duties.
 6. Lift and move equipment up to 40 pounds.
 7. Operate a motor vehicle for the purposes of transporting self, people, and/or equipment to program and training locations
 8. Work comfortably on and around water, including lakes, streams, and powered and non-powered watercrafts.
 9. Transport, set up, and troubleshoot audio visual equipment without assistance.
 10. Speak clearly in front of a group.
