Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The employee assigned to this position is a float and is responsible for performing Equipment Operator services to all areas as needed under the direct supervision of the Automotive Equipment Foreman.

To complete job assignments, this employee operates buses up to 44 passengers on a daily basis; also operates single axle trucks up to 26,000 GVW, backhoe and front-end loaders with bucket capacity of less than three cubic yards for snow removal and grounds maintenance.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Transports individuals and staff to designated locations by operating the assigned vehicles in accordance with applicable Commonwealth laws and DPW/Ebensburg Center Policies, and adhering to transportation schedule in order to ensure clients are transported in a safe manner to correct location within the prescribed time frames.

Transports bulk food heat retention trays and supplies to appropriate areas by following posted delivery schedules in order to meet scheduled meal times.


Maintains the roadways during the winter months and grounds during the summer months by plowing, cindering, mowing, spraying, fertilizing, and trimming in order to maintain a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment.

Operates hi-lift and other equipment to transport heavy equipment, remove snow, assist with special projects, excavate, and landscape facility grounds by operating the assigned equipment in accordance with applicable Commonwealth laws and DPW/Ebensburg Center Policies in order to maintain the Center's grounds, roads, and walkways.

Performs driver-oriented maintenance, scheduled maintenance, and vehicle preparation by following the established maintenance schedule in order to ensure safe efficient operation of the vehicle.

Performs related clerical tasks by maintaining required records including, but not limited to, work order mileage logs, trip sheets, gas sheets, and service records in order to meet DPW regulations and ensure an efficient, cost-effective operation of vehicles.

Performs the function of Equipment Operator for other assigned areas by following policies and procedures of the area in order to support the overall goals of the facility.

Provides general transportation services by picking up repair parts, supplies, and materials, delivering vehicles on and off grounds, and delivering invoices to the appropriate supervisor in order to ensure an efficient Garage operation.

Cleans assigned areas by performing general labor duties in order to maintain a safe clean environment.

Performs general laboring duties and assist the mechanic in equipment repairs as assigned by the Automotive Equipment Foreman in order to ensure continued operation of the automotive fleet.

Maintains cleanliness of the automotive fleet by washing exterior/interior of surfaces including windows and vacuuming and disinfecting the interior in order to provide individuals and staff with clean and safe transportation.

Increases job skills and knowledge by attending in-service training sessions and meetings in order to increase proficiency level within the job class.

Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned. Purpose and standards will be given at the time of each assignment.

Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and constructive working
relationships with all Ebensburg Center staff and individuals.

Essential Functions
