This position entails sub-journey level maintenance and repair work in a variety of building, mechanical and electrical trades. This position performs in a seven (7) day operation and may be scheduled to work weekends, evenings, and holidays. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Employee works in a variety of trades at the sub-journey level in maintenance and repair. Work involves minor repair jobs of a routine nature, completed independently or with only general supervision, or more advanced work assisting a journey level skilled tradesman or foreman. Supervision is received from a maintenance supervisor who assigns and inspects work. Work involves having a basic knowledge in, and ability to assist with the methods, materials, tools, practices, safety practices, and hazards of the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, masonry, electrical, welding, and landscaping. This is not meant to be an exhaustive list. Employee must have ability to assist and/or operate tractors, mowers, dump trucks, skid steers, pickup trucks, motorized turf equipment, chainsaws and other equipment and be able to read and understand operation and maintenance manuals for the same. Acts as lead worker to Semi-Skilled Laborers during completion of projects. Practices safety in all aspects of work on a daily basis. CARPENTRY Assists in the utilization of hand and power tools to perform general carpentry work in the maintenance, renovation and construction of park facilities. Assists journey level skilled tradesman or foreman to interpret blueprints, sketches and diagrams. Installs and repairs floors and floor coverings, doors, locks, screens, roofs, soffit, fascia, spouting, windows, decks, siding, etc. Assists journey level tradesman or foreman with planning, design and construction of wood projects, such as cabinets, shelves, walls, bulletin boards and kiosks, trail boardwalks, foot bridges, etc. PLUMBING Assists in performing repairs, renovations and new construction to the plumbing infrastructure at all facilities and supporting system, including well systems, distribution lines, taps and spigots, etc. Opens blocked drains, repairs leaks in all plumbing fixtures including faucets, urinals, toilets, fountains, showers etc. Pulls, repairs and reinstalls various types of pumps. Installs and/or maintains pumping systems. Performs all tasks needed to winterize water systems. Assists in the installation and maintenance of water distribution lines including installation and repair of blow-offs, taps, etc. MASONRY Assists in performing new and renovation work in connection with buildings, bridges, foundations, walks and walls. Constructs forms for cement work, mixes cement and plaster, and finishes cement using standard mason’s tools. Pours footers, bases and walls. Lay stone and block for walls, patios, etc. Repoints walls, stone patios, etc. MECHANICAL Assists in preventive maintenance and checklist type inspections to vehicles, equipment and tools to insure they operate safely. ELECTRICAL Assists skilled tradesman or foreman with electrical installations or repairs to new construction or existing electrical panels, outlets, switches, wirings, fixtures, outdoor lighting, etc. Performs HVAC system repairs and maintenance. EQUIPMENT OPERATION Operates a variety of equipment in a safe and responsible manner to maintain the park. Prepares and maintains vehicle and equipment reports. Performs inspection of equipment to detect defects and plan for repairs. VEHICLES Performs and records routine vehicle maintenance. LANDSCAPING Repairs, renovates and maintains turf areas, roads, trails, paths and walkways. Seeds and fertilizes new turf areas old older areas for renovation of turf. Plants, prunes, waters, and cares for trees as needed. Plants new trees. Removes snow from roads, walkways and parking lots. Applies salt and anti-skid to roads and lots. Operates chainsaws with proper training and safety gear. Assists Certified Pesticide Applicator with herbicide applications and maintains PA Dept. of Ag registered Public Pesticide Technician certification. GENERAL Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Cleans and stores tools in their proper area daily. Completes tool inventories and updates as needed. Duties also include the cleaning and general housekeeping of all park facilities, vehicles and equipment. OTHER GENERAL DUTIES: General Custodial work to clean restroom facilities, cabins, office and other buildings of the park including trash/litter pickup and removal. Installs picnic grills, signs, park benches and other amenities at park facilities when assigned. This includes hand digging holes and mixing concrete for proper installation. Paints and/or stains park signs; building walls, ceilings & floors; tanks and other equipment. Assists skilled tradesman with construction activities, and repairs and maintenance to park water and wastewater systems. Operates chain saw for cutting storm damaged and hazardous trees, trims branches off and cuts logs into specified lengths. Operates chipper for cleanup of limbs, branches, etc. Prunes branches on trees along park roads and trails as needed to keep them open and safe. Maintains trail bridges and paints blazes. Use and climb ladders and scaffolding to work at heights of up to 50 feet. Operates a motor vehicle, trucks, dump trucks and park equipment in performance of duties, including snow removal if necessary and assigned. Is responsible for the safe and proper use of all vehicles, equipment, power tools and hand tools and is responsible for maintenance and care of all vehicles and equipment. Removes litter from all areas. Assists park visitors and disseminates information in a friendly, helpful manner. Completes all necessary forms/records, such as daily records, automotive mileage sheets, fuel dispensing records and leave slips. Operates two-way radio in accordance with proper procedure. Performs related work as required. |

Work is reviewed for quality and completeness by Maintenance Supervisor. |
