Therapeutic Recreation operations are conducted efficiently and effectively to ensure the highest quality of individualized treatment and support. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Primary responsibility lies in the delivery of Therapeutic Activities Services during mornings and afternoons for the patients in the civil section. Therapeutic Recreation services utilize arts and crafts, drama, dance, games, exercises, sports, literature, current events, music, horticulture, community and social/activities, nature/outdoor activities to promote comprehensive treatment for patients. The TAW will: 1. Conduct formal assessments of patients to determine functional levels, strengths, needs, interests and abilities to design, organize, conduct and evaluate specifically planned therapeutic activities methods that help patients achieve goals and objectives as specified in the comprehensive treatment plan. 2. Monitor and document patient progress in the treatment record. 3. Maintain and submit monthly reports to the TR Manager and immediate Supervisor regarding daily patient programs, attendance, participation, quality assurance monitors, special events, observations, problems, and needs to ensure that TR services are conducted efficiently and effectively. 4. Attend multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to provide professional feedback, both written and oral, regarding progress toward meeting specific treatment goals. 5. Assist patients in community re-entry programs to facilitate transition and carry over of leisure skills and interests. 6. Procure and organize supplies, equipment and space for therapeutic activities programs within the treatment unit and/or program areas to maintain efficient operations. 7. Assist with generalized assignments such as holiday parties, banquets, picnics, and interdisciplinary special functions. 8. Assist in maintaining a clean, safe and secure quality therapeutic environment on the treatment unit and in program areas. 9. Coordinate and direct other assigned, non-professional staff, therapeutic activities aides, students, and volunteers who may assist in programming. 10. Participate in TR Department staff meetings, supervisory consultations, and other professional meetings as assigned. 11. Input leave requests into on-line SAP time management system. 12. Submit requisitions for supplies and equipment as needed. Essential Job Functions: 1. Design, implement, evaluate TR programs. 2. Observe and evaluate patient behavior. 3. Read/understand records/policies. 4. Write assessments, goals/objectives. 5. Write progress notes and reports. 6. Communicate effectively. 7. Utilize and maintain TR equipment. 8. Travel to and from patient/program areas 9. Escort patients to community programs 10. Carry TR supplies to/from program areas. |

Prior approval: 1.Requisitioning program funds, supplies, and equipment through the department supervisor. 2.Interpretation of Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures. 3.Scheduling program coverage in worker’s absence through the department supervisor. 4.Plan and coordinate community trips for patients. |
