Position Purpose:

The Licensed Psychologist functions as a member of the Psychology staff under the Social Rehabilitation Services (SRS) department and as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team (when applicable). This position is responsible for providing psychological services to patients receiving treatment in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting. This position through education, training, and observation takes into consideration during interaction and programming the age/disability needs of the patient. The Licensed Psychologist performs independent and specialized clinical work. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Licensed Psychologist Director or administrator and is subject to review through consultation and evaluation of work performed.

The Licensed Psychologist functions as a member of the Psychology staff and as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team (when applicable). This position is responsible for providing psychological services to patients receiving treatment in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting. The person in this position through education, training, and observation takes into consideration during interaction and programming the age/disability needs of the patient. The Licensed Psychologist performs independent and specialized clinical work in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting. The person holding this position is considered to be an essential employee.

Specific Duties Include (but are not limited to):
1. Evaluates the psychological strengths and weaknesses of individuals through various means, including reviewing medical and social case histories, personal interviews, and observation of their behavior and emotional and physical condition.
2. Selects, administers, and interprets intelligence, neuropsychological, social development, achievement, competency, interest, personality, and other psychological tests to diagnose individual psychological disorders and formulate plans for psychological treatment. Psychology assessments are to be completed according to department policy and standards.
3. Ensures diagnostic measurements are valid and reliable and are expressed within confidence limits.
4. Complete initial and annual psychology assessments for patients according to policy.
5. Completes necessary documentation for CSP meetings, including crisis plans and assists with clinical assessments.
6. Collaborates with staff from psychiatric or medical services or other disciplines in developing individual treatment program plans and behavioral plans.
7. Participates in treatment team meetings on assigned unit ensuring consideration by the team of recommendations made by the psychologist. As a member of the treatment team, will complete all required documentation in the patient’s Electronic Heath Record (EHR).
8. Serves as treatment team coordinator (if assigned) in formulating, implementing, and monitoring individual comprehensive treatment plans consistent with the established psychiatric or medical diagnoses and in accordance with regulations, policies, practices, standards, and clinical privileges relevant to the treatment of individuals.
9. Make up monthly treatment team meeting schedule per policy, if assigned, assigning patients both for initial evaluations and also monthly reviews.
10. Participates in treatment team staff meetings to discuss and evaluate the progress of individuals in meeting their treatment program objectives and to plan needed adjustments.
11. Treats individual psychological disorders to effect behavior modification and improve adjustments by using various psychological techniques, such as individual and group therapy, milieu therapy, or other therapeutic procedures for individuals in a multidisciplinary treatment team setting. Work with treatment teams on developing and monitoring behavioral plans. Consult with supervisor, as needed, when developing behavior plans and for approval prior to implementation and placement of behavior plans in patient’s chart.
12. Conducts group and individual therapy sessions by meeting with the patients who are referred by the treatment team according to the time and frequency identified on the ITP in order to improve the patient’s psychological and emotional behavior.
13. Functions actively as a member of the Psychology Department by attending supervisory sessions and departmental meetings, and by serving on departmental and/or hospital-wide committees when requested in order to remain knowledgeable of department activities and to represent the department in a professional manner through the hospital.
14. Serve on Multidisciplinary Team for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (MTID), if applicable. Conducts FBAs, writes multi-model reports/addendums, develops and modifying data collection sheets, create and tracking records, and related materials.
15. Oversees psychology interns by providing required supervision and countersigning all required documentation. Assists in developing interns training schedules.
16. Participates in professional trainings by attending/conducting in service and out service training sessions relevant to job duties in order to develop and maintain high level of professional competency, as well as maintaining an active Psychology License.
17. Assists the director with departmental audits, when appliable.
18. Demonstrate competencies in application of techniques and maintain certification in MANDT and CPR.
19. Maintain all required documentation in the patient’s Electronic Heath Care Record (EHR). Documentation includes (but not limited to) weekly, monthly, group, treatment team progress notes.
20. Participates in Medicare B Program in which appropriate services rendered are reimbursed. Participation is accomplished by fulfilling requirements of the program and by billing Medicare B monthly such that funds are received by DHS from Medicare B for billable treatment services provided.
21. Participates in professional trainings by attending/conducting in service and out service training sessions relevant to job duties in order to develop and maintain high level of professional competency.
22. Provides testimony, as needed, in recommitment hearings.
23. Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned. Purpose and standards will be given at the time of each assignment.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of the principles and methods of psychology, including diagnostic evaluation, behavior modification, therapy, and the relationships between diagnostic findings and therapeutic methodologies.
2. Knowledge of psychological testing methodologies.
3. Knowledge of statistical methods and analysis for social services.
4. Knowledge of mental health disorders and developmental disabilities, their symptoms, and treatment and social implications.
5. Knowledge of the principles and methods of psychological research and experimental design as applied to the field of psychology.
6. Knowledge of the standards and ethical principles of the practice of psychology.
7. Knowledge of the Pennsylvania Mental Health Procedures Act.
8. Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office software.
9. Ability to select, administer, score and interpret a wide range of psychological tests.
10. Ability to develop recommendations based on the interpretation of psychological data.
11. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
12. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
13. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

The Licensed Psychologist performs independent and specialized clinical work. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Licensed Psychologist Director or administrator and is subject to review through consultation and evaluation of work performed. Work assignment is determined by the needs of patients, by the recommendations of the treatment team, and by the Licensed Psychology Director. Work is reviewed by the Licensed Psychology Director.
